It was officially announced at the Jump Festa 2020 event today that an all-new TV anime based on the Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai manga written by Riku Sanjo and illustrated by Koji Inada is set to premiere in Japan in the fall of 2020. Toei Animation opened an official website for the anime project with a 75-second teaser trailer below. And it was also confirmed that a new game project based on the manga is now in the works by Square Enix.
The manga inspired by the worldview of Enix’s Dragon Quest RPG Series was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from 1989 to 1996 and released 37 tankobon volumes under the supervision by the game’s original creator Yuji Horii. According to the teaser trailer for the new anime, it has printed 47 million copies in total.
It was previously adapted into a 46-episode TV anime series by Toei Animation, which was aired in Japan from October 1991 to September 1992. And three short anime films were released from January 1991 to July 1992.
