#Marvel Confirms The Strongest Avenger is [SPOILER] -BB

Warning: SPOILERS for Captain Marvel #14

Writer Kelly Thompson and artist Lee Garbett’s Captain Marvel #14 may have just revealed not only more about Carol’s devious plans but more importantly, who is actually the Avenger’s strongest team member. Thus far Captain Marvel has taken out her teammates with somewhat unsurprising success, but she was definitely not prepared for this particular fight.

For whatever other reasons, presumably Vox Supreme (a combination of a mutated Kree and the Kree Super-Intelligence) chose Captain Marvel to take out her teammates because he believed that she would succeed where many others have failed. After all, Captain Marvel has proven more than a few times, both in the MCU and on the comics page, that she can hold her own. She does not have the best track record with friendly fire, and in this story arc, she has already taken out both the God of Thunder and one of Marvel’s smartest men. But Marvel is known for constantly changing the power dynamics of their universe, and Captain Marvel’s time in the sun may be passing.

When Captain Marvel sets her sights on Black Panther, She-Hulk is there to defend her friend and knock Captain Marvel clean off her power trip. (She also can’t be too happy about Carol taking down her recent love interest). She-Hulk might have already become the most powerful Hulk, but it looks like this heavy weight is also competing for the title of strongest Avenger. Given what she just did to Carol (and without the use of her powerful, new weapon), there is definitely a good argument for giving She-Hulk the title. After all, she just smashed the presumed champion into next Tuesday with a single punch, apparently succeeding where some of her best colleagues failed. Captain Marvel seems in agreement as her first thought upon seeing She-Hulk is “No. Not now, it’s too soon. I wasn’t ready for–

In Carol’s defense, no one is probably ready for She-Hulk’s Celestial enhanced power. Carol was successfully able to tackle some of the Avenger’s best assets in terms of strength, magic, tech, and intelligence when she took down Thor, Tony, and (almost) the Avenger’s chairperson, Black Panther. Captain Marvel’s fellow super-heroine though presents a combination so powerful that the Avengers should be glad that Vox chose Captain Marvel and not She-Hulk to take them down. On the one hand, She-Hulk has almost fully leaned into her savage nature and gotten some serious power upgrades. To balance that out, Jennifer Walters is still there in the background to help guide her powerful counterpart with her particular savvy in getting out of tricky situations.

When all is said and done, for the moment, She-Hulk just smashed both Captain Marvel (and her green cousin) down a couple of pegs to take the title of „strongest Avenger.“ She-Hulk’s ascent, unfortunately, can only mean some equally terrifying enemies are just around the corner. Now that She-Hulk seems to have a handle on her new powers, will ensuing events see She-Hulk stepping up to the forefront of the Avenger’s line-up? More importantly, is this showdown clearing a spot for She-Hulk to take center stage for the events of Empyre? Hulking may not be a Hulk, but if Kree-Skrull-Human relations go south, he might need to be contained by one.

The good news is that She-Hulk’s evolution might also herald a new chapter for the Green Giantess. After all, she has had her struggles finding her place in Marvel’s Universe, but recent Captain Marvel story arcs with Kelly Thompson and Jason Aaron might be further cracking the code. (This new story arc might also provide some interesting material for Disney+’s upcoming She-Hulk TV show.)
