Residents remain unconvinced.<\/p>\n<section class=\"article-banner first-banner ads-336x280\"><!-- \/4988204\/Phys_Story_InText_Box --><br \/>\n      <\/section>\n<p>On a Tuesday morning this month, blocks and blocks of cars waited near a church in the eastern part of the Midewestern city to receive value packs of bottled water.<\/p>\n<p>These giveaways still h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en three days a week, some six years after residents began complaining that a decision to supply the city from the Flint River was making them sick.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re still leery of drinking the water,&#8221; said Cleophus Mooney as he waited in his car to collect his week&#8217;s supply. &#8220;We&#8217;ll still drink the bottled water until somebody high up says, &#8216;It&#8217;s okay to drink the water.'&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sometimes the water still smells like a sewer and sometimes it has flecks in it,&#8221; said activist JoJo Freeman, whose daughter still breaks out in hives after a shower.<\/p>\n<p>Official statements from government bodies offer reassurance\u2014up to a point.<\/p>\n<p>The Michigan state website stops short of calling Flint&#8217;s water &#8220;safe to drink&#8221; but says the supply &#8220;meets very high standards,&#8221; while city officials say the water quality has &#8220;stabilized&#8221; and shows low lead levels. <\/p>\n<p>A city spokeswoman said more than 90 percent of the service lines have been replaced as part of the push to &#8220;get the lead out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-gallery lightGallery\">\n<div data-thumb=\"https:\/\/scx1.b-cdn.net\/csz\/news\/tmb\/2020\/carswaitinli.jpg\" data-src=\"https:\/\/scx2.b-cdn.net\/gfx\/news\/2020\/carswaitinli.jpg\" data-sub-html=\"Cars wait in line to receive bottled water in Flint, Michigan\">\n<figure class=\"article-img text-center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/scx1.b-cdn.net\/csz\/news\/800\/2020\/carswaitinli.jpg\" alt=\"Cars wait in line to receive bottled water in Flint, Michigan\" title=\"Cars wait in line to receive bottled water in Flint, Michigan\"\/><figcaption class=\"text-left text-darken text-truncate text-low-up mt-3\">\n                Cars wait in line to receive bottled water in Flint, Michigan<br \/>\n            <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says it is safe to wash hands and bathe with unfiltered water, but urges against cooking or brushing teeth with it. Like the state, the EPA also urges use of a filter.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Do not drink unfiltered water. It&#8217;s not safe!&#8221; the federal agency says on its website.<\/p>\n<p>Activist Claire McClinton recognizes that the water has improved from earlier, but &#8220;we have not been shown the evidence we need to believe the water is safe,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;re still in crisis mode,&#8221; said McClinton, whose button reads, &#8220;Flint is still broken.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><b>Restoring trust?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Continued doubts about the water come as Michigan officials have taken steps to compensate the low-income city, unveiling a preliminary agreement in August to provide $600 million to claimants.<\/p>\n<p>About 80 percent was to go to children. Young children are considered epecially vulnerable because lead exposure can damage the brain and nervous system. said Stern, who says he understands why people are skeptical.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s obviously distrust amongst my clients towards the government,&#8221; Stern said. <\/p>\n<p>The settlement\u2014which has been met with mixed reactions in Flint\u2014resolves thousands of civil claims against Michigan. <\/p>\n<p>Less clear is the status of criminal probes against top state officials who orchestrated the shift in water supply and downplayed or misled the public about the health implications.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Dana Nessel, a Democrat elected in November 2018, threw out criminal cases against former government officials, arguing that her Republican predecessor undertook a &#8220;flawed&#8221; Nayirrah Shariff of the group Flint Rising said of the $600 million settlement, adding that there should be lifetime health benefits for victims of the water crisis.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is no clear pathway for trust,&#8221;
