\n Sen. Tim Scott on Wednesday mocked Democrats for their kente cloth stunt after Sen. Dick Durbin described his police reform proposals as a \u201ctoken\u201d app<\/a>roach.<\/p>\n

\u201cY\u2019all still wearing those kente cloths over there @SenatorDurbin?,\u201d Scott, a Republican of South Carolina, wrote on Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Durbin\u2019s comments came just after Scott, the only black Republican senator, introduced the Republicans\u2019 police reform proposals following the death of George Floyd by the Minneapolis Police Department.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the Senate floor, Durbin noted that the time is right for reforms following the mass protests nationwide over Floyd\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe cannot waste this historic moment, this singular opportunity,\u201d Durbin said. \u201cLet\u2019s not do something that is a token, half-hearted approach. Let\u2019s focus instead on making a change that will make a difference in the future of America.\u201d<\/p>\n

Scott was alluding to Democrats \u2014 including Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi \u2014 who knelt earlier this month in the Capitol\u2019s Emancipation Hall to note the eight minutes and 46 seconds former officer Derek Chauvin kept his knee pressed into Floyd\u2019s neck.<\/p>\n

The roughly two dozen Democrats wore colorful African kente cloths draped around their necks.<\/p>\n

They were criticized at the time for wearing the African garb, but Rep. Karen Bass, the chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus, said the lawmakers wore the kente cloth in an act of solidarity.<\/p>\n

Durbin was not among the kneeling group.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
