“#’Anonymous’ author Miles Taylor ‘scammed’ CNN into job<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n President Trump on Thursday said that newly self-unmasked \u201cAnonymous\u201d author Miles Taylor \u201cscammed\u201d CNN into a job after lying about writing an explosive 2018 op-ed attributed to a senior Trump administration official.<\/p>\n

Taylor briefly served as chief of staff at the Department of Homeland Security last year and was not a well-known figure in Washington when he wrote of \u201cworking diligently from within to frustrate parts of [Trump\u2019s] agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo it turns out that the wise guy promoted as \u2018Anonymous\u2019 by the @nytimes, named Miles Taylor (who I never even heard of!), was only a little known \u2018staffer\u2019 as opposed to a \u2018Senior Administration Official\u2019,\u201d Trump tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe then scammed @CNN, lied to @andersoncooper, & got a job there. He also worked at, of all places, @Google. They all have big liability!!!\u201d<\/p>\n

Taylor, 33, outed himself Wednesday after lying to CNN host Anderson Cooper<\/a> in August about whether he was \u201cAnonymous.\u201d CNN hired Taylor last month as a paid on-air contributor.<\/p>\n

A CNN spokesman told The Post on Wednesday it would not fire him for the deception. Taylor\u2019s LinkedIn profile<\/a>\u00a0says he\u2019s on leave from Google, where he works as US Lead for Advanced Technology<\/a> and Security Strategy.<\/p>\n

But CNN anchor Chris Cuomo pressed Taylor on lying in a Wednesday night interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know what the problem is with having lied \u2014 is that now you are a liar. And people will be slow to believe you,\u201d Cuomo told Taylor. \u201cWhy should CNN keep you on the payroll after lying?\u201d<\/p>\n

Taylor claimed, \u201cI temporarily denied it\u201d to \u201cdeprive the president of an opportunity to do one more personal attack to distract from his record.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump on Wednesday called for firings at the New York Times over the decision to allow Taylor to anonymously style himself a senior official when he wasn\u2019t actually a prominent figure. He had not yet been elevated to be DHS chief of staff.<\/p>\n

Washington gossip swirled for years about the identity of \u201cAnonymous.\u201d Many officials incorrectly believed the person was a cabinet secretary or a senior White House official.<\/p>\n

After his unveil Wednesday, Trump said he didn\u2019t know Taylor and that people should \u201cshould fire, shame, and punish everybody associated with this FRAUD.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump said at a campaign rally in Arizona on Wednesday that \u201cAnonymous turned out to be a low-level staffer. A sleazebag. He\u2019s never worked in the White House. Anonymous was a nobody, a disgruntled employee who was quickly removed from this job a long time ago for, they tell me, incompetence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump added: \u201cIf you heard about Anonymous, it was like somebody that was right next to me. I thought it might have been Hope Hicks. I thought it might have been Jared [Kushner]\u2026 This guy\u2019s a low-level lowlife that I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n

Taylor gained prominence when he cut an anti-Trump ad<\/a> in August for the group Republican Voters Against Trump.<\/p>\n

The widely circulated anonymous op-ed contained few specific policy disagreements, but faulted Trump\u2019s \u201cpreference for autocrats and dictators\u201d and his app<\/a>roach to Russia. Taylor also anonymously wrote the book \u201cA Warning\u201d last year.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
