{"id":100865,"date":"2020-10-30T03:36:23","date_gmt":"2020-10-30T00:36:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/sherri-papini-case-remains-unsolved-four-years-after-kidnapping\/"},"modified":"2020-10-30T03:36:23","modified_gmt":"2020-10-30T00:36:23","slug":"sherri-papini-case-remains-unsolved-four-years-after-kidnapping","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/sherri-papini-case-remains-unsolved-four-years-after-kidnapping\/","title":{"rendered":"#Sherri Papini case remains unsolved four years after kidnapping"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Sherri Papini case remains unsolved four years after kidn<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ing<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n                        It\u2019s been four years since California \u201csuper mom\u201d Sherri Papini vanished during a broad-daylight jog, and then reappeared with an astounding, never-corroborated tale of a kidnapping by two women.<\/p>\n<p>Pepini has long since resumed a quiet, suburban life with her husband, son and daughter \u2014 yet tips on what may have happened to the petite mom are still being called in to investigators, including from a mysterious man in Southern California.<\/p>\n<p>The man called Shasta County Sheriff\u2019s Office a few months ago claiming that Papini was with him for the entire 22 days that she was supposedly held captive by her gun-toting abductors, a law enforcement source told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said, basically, that it was a hoax,\u201d the source said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Papini case remains such a confounding mystery that investigators still can\u2019t decide if she was the victim of a kidnapping, or if they \u2014 and everyone across the country who pulled for her while she was missing \u2014 are the victims of a fabrication.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators are \u201ctoo afraid to commit one way or another,\u201d in part out of fear of \u201cgetting egg on their face,\u201d the source explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey could be putting it on the back burner because they don\u2019t have the pressure to solve it,\u201d the source said of the case.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>The now 38-year-old Papini and her family have stayed as tight-lipped as have investigators in the past four years since her shocking reappearance.<\/p>\n<p>Papini was found on Thanksgiving morning in 2016, when she flagged down a motorist on the side of Interstate 5 in Yolo County, 150 miles from her home.<\/p>\n<p>She was safe, but chained, battered and burned by a branding iron.<\/p>\n<p>She told investigators that her captors were two \u201cHispanic\u201d women who she was unable to clearly describe \u2014 or attribute a motive to.<\/p>\n<p>In their first statement in years, Papini and her husband, Keith, say they\u2019re still hoping for resolution in the case.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSherri and Keith continue to follow the investigation while they focus on their family,\u201d the family\u2019s publicist, Chris Thomas, told The Post.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16536356\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img class=\"size-nypost-large-desktop-uncropped wp-image-16536356 lazyload\" alt=\"Footage shows Sherri Papini was briskly heading to Interstate 5 in Yolo County, California.\" width=\"662\" height=\"441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/SherriPapini.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=300 300w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/SherriPapini.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=640 640w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/SherriPapini.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1280 1280w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/SherriPapini.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=662 662w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/SherriPapini.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1324 1324w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 662px\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span>Footage shows Sherri Papini was briskly heading to Interstate 5 in Yolo County, California.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">Shasta County Sheriff\u2019s Office<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThey remain hopeful there will be a break in the case at some point and those responsible will be brought to justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The sheriff\u2019s office, which is spearheading the investigation with help from the FBI, isn\u2019t commenting on the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe case is pretty unique so it calls for unique handling of it,\u201d said Sgt. Kyle Wallace, when asked about the tight lid on the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Still, there may be a clue in one thing Wallace, the lead investigator, did say \u2014 that there is no perceived ongoing threat to community safety despite no arrests ever being made.<\/p>\n<p>Papini had told detectives four years ago that two Hispanic women armed with a handgun had abducted her, beat her and held her captive in a basement before one of them finally left her on the side of the road.<\/p>\n<p>The motive has never been revealed and the closest the community has received to getting answers about the alleged perpetrators were two ambiguous-looking sketches of the masked suspects released a year after the fact.<\/p>\n<p>If they are still out there, why is the public deemed safe?<\/p>\n<p>The office is \u201cnot commenting on anything currently,\u201d Wallace would only say.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>Papini \u2014 who was once hailed as a \u201csupermom\u201d \u2014 left town for some time in the aftermath of the kidnapping, then returned to the same home where her husband was raised and where they have lived together as a couple.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe family is doing fine,\u201d her aunt, Darlene Brown, told The Post, declining to say more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t like to bring the case back up,\u201d Brown explained.<\/p>\n<p>A neighbor said she has seen Papini outside, but infrequently. You would think the moon and stars are riding on her. I\u2019ve never seen someone adore anyone like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>Residents are still divided four years later about what happened to the stay-at-home mom \u2014 with skeptics pointing to old police reports that later surfaced about Papini\u2019s teenage and young adult years.<\/p>\n<p>When she was 18 years old, her sister accused her of kicking in the back door of the family\u2019s Shasta Lake home, according to police reports <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-4873826\/Sherri-Papini-seen-picking-children-Redding-CA.html\">obtained through a FOIA request by the Daily Mail<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The same day, her parents, Richard and Loretta Graeff, called the police to report the incident as \u201cvandalism\u201d and claimed that she had taken off to \u201csomewhere in Redding,\u201d the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>She had simply run away from her family.<\/p>\n<p>Three years later, when she was 21, her parents placed another call to cops alleging she had taken money from her father\u2019s bank account \u2013 although the report indicates that Papini later returned it.<\/p>\n<p>Her mother called cops again the same year to report that Sherri was harming herself and blaming the injuries on her, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/news\/local\/crime\/article141599034.html\">the Sacramento Bee reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When Papini turned up on the side of the road in the town of Mountain Gale, she had been \u201cbranded,\u201d on her right shoulder, though it was unclear what the image was that had been burned into her skin.<\/p>\n<p>Inconsistencies arose as investigators tried to corroborate Papini\u2019s story \u2014 including a cut on her foot she claimed her attackers gave her, but which wasn\u2019t found when she was hospitalized after turning up.<\/p>\n<p>Brandin Weese, who was Central Valley High School classmates with both Papini and her husband, said that he \u201cpersonally never had any reason to doubt her credibility,\u201d but added that he \u201cdefinitely understands why there are some skeptics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you tie it in what\u2019s going on here, it might seem like in high school that was her crying for help,\u201d Weese told The Post of Sherri acting out as a young adult.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn high school, she had issues between her and her mom, things of that nature. She had run away in high school for a good amount of time, this that and the other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Weese said he only saw the string of incidents as a \u201cteenage kid having a teenage emotional reaction\u201d and doesn\u2019t doubt her kidnapping tale.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would like to have some faith in humanity seeing a that would be a pretty elaborate thing to do,\u201d he said, \u201cespecially seeing as how she was branded and burned and all this kind of stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<p>Papini\u2019s case remains a criminal justice oddity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think they could find anything in the United States where that happened to someone,\u201d said retired NYPD Sgt.
