\n WeWork is once again looking to go public \u2014 but only if it starts making money.<\/p>\n

The beleaguered office-sharing startup could take another shot at an initial public offering after it becomes profitable, a milestone it expects to reach next year, CEO Sandeep Mathrani reportedly said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a big believer in one step at a time so let\u2019s hit profitable growth first, and we\u2019ll then revisit the IPO plan,\u201d Mathrani told reporters in India on a Wednesday video call, according to Bloomberg News<\/a>.<\/p>\n

WeWork abandoned its first attempt at an IPO in September 2019 amid concerns about ex-chief executive Adam Neumann\u2019s alleged self-dealing, erratic behavior and drug use. The company \u2014 which has taken a beating from the coronavirus pandemic \u2014 has since sought to cut costs and focus on its core office-rental business.<\/p>\n

While credit-rating agency Fitch Ratings warned last week that the struggling startup could default on its obligations, Mathrani said WeWork has racked up $1 billion in annual savings by cutting more than 8,000 staffers and is 75 percent of the way through a review of its global locations, Bloomberg reported.<\/p>\n

He also revealed that he\u2019s still in touch with Neumann, who stepped down last year a week before the IPO was scrapp<\/a>ed. Neumann was said to have received a more than $1 billion golden parachute upon his exit, though WeWork recently killed a $185 million consulting deal with the 41-year-old co-founder.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe chitchat twice a month and the conversation is about the business,\u201d Mathrani said, according to Bloomberg. \u201cHe wants to know what I\u2019m doing.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
