“#Washington Post wrongly claims Trump officials criticized Billie Eilish<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n A Washington Post story wrongly claimed the Trump administration accused Billie Eilish of \u201cdestroying our country\u201d \u2014 then spread like wildfire among the entertainment industry.<\/p>\n

The article on Thursday<\/a> \u2014 in part about hundreds of celebrities being vetted for a Trump administration coronavirus ad campaign \u2014 included a misattributed quote from the White House about Eilish.<\/p>\n

\u201cDonald Trump is destroying our country and everything we care about,\u201d the Grammy-winning singer said at the Democratic National Convention in August.<\/p>\n

Citing leaked documents obtained by Democratic House lawmakers, the Washington Post incorrectly wrote that the Trump officials described Eilish as \u201cnot a Trump supporter,\u201d saying she is \u201cdestroying our country and everything we care about.\u201d<\/p>\n

A screenshot of the leaked papers showed that Trump officials\u2019 descript<\/a>ion of Eilish was clear \u2014 they said the \u201cBad Guy\u201d singer \u201cmade a political statement on gun control in 2019; will be a first time voter in 2020; not a Trump supporter, stated he \u2018is destroying our country and everything we care about.’\u201d<\/p>\n

The flub was picked up by Vice editor Jill Krajewski<\/a>, who noted that \u201can embarrassing number of music outlets\u201d including Complex, NME, Consequence of Sound and The Fader aggregated the misreported Washington Post story.<\/p>\n

TMZ and GQ Australia also picked up the article.<\/p>\n

On Friday, a correction appeared on the Washington Post story.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn earlier version of this report incorrectly attributed Billie Eilish\u2019s comment about Trump \u2018destroying our country and everything we care about,\u2019 to the team vetting her, rather than to her own remarks,\u201d it said at the bottom of the online article.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
