\n CNN host Don Lemon went off the rails during his show\u2019s opening Thursday night, saying he\u2019s had to cut his President Trump-supporting friends out of his life, comparing them to drug addicts who \u201chave to hit rock bottom\u201d and seek help.<\/p>\n

The news<\/a> anchor told colleague Chris Cuomo<\/a> that he\u2019s purged his \u201cnon-sensical\u201d friends who support the president \u2014 comments that later got him roasted on Twitter<\/a> for being \u201chateful.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI had to get rid of them, they\u2019re too far gone,\u201d Lemon said, noting that he grew up in the \u201cred state\u201d of Louisiana. \u201cI think they have to hit rock bottom like an addict, right?<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd they have to want to get help, they have to want to know the truth, they have to want to live in reality, they have to want to be responsible not only for other people\u2019s lives but for their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lemon, 54, then said he didn\u2019t know whether their friendship could ever be repaired given their conflicting political views.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know if after this I will ever be able to go back and be friends with those people because at a certain point you just say, \u2018You\u2019re too far gone,’\u201d he said. \u201cIf they\u2019re willing to come back and willing to live in reality, then I will welcome them with open arms.\u201d<\/p>\n

People quickly responded on Twitter, panning Lemon for the remarks, including prominent Trump supporter Ashley StClair, who spoofed the anchor in a video<\/a> in which she tearfully admits that she\u2019s addicted to \u201cred pills.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also tweeted, \u201cDon Lemon is addicted to being an idiot.\u201d<\/p>\n

StClair\u2019s video was reposted by Congressman Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), who wrote, \u201cWe need to support @stclairashley in her struggles. This is not a time for blame and recrimination. She needs help and she needs it now. Lord knows what\u2019s on her laptop. #AmericaFirst #RedPilled.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another Trump supporter, Melissa Tate, commented, \u201cSo CNN on Don Lemon is now promoting the idea they you must hate, disown & ostracized your family and friend if they have different political beliefs. These people are so hateful.\u201d<\/p>\n

#WalkAway founder Brandon Straka chimed in<\/a>, \u201cWhat right leaning people were friends with Don Lemon???\u201d<\/p>\n

And prominent conservative attorney Harmeet K. Dhillon quipped<\/a>, \u201cDon Lemon talking to his imaginary friends again\u2026\u201d\n <\/div>\n
