Dave Bautista<\/strong> is playing yet another intergalactic adventurer in the \u201cirreverent\u201d sci-fi thriller\u00a0Universe\u2019s Most Wanted<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0San Andreas<\/em> and\u00a0Rampage<\/em> filmmaker Brad Peyton<\/strong> is set to direct and produce the big-budget sci-fi film.<\/p>\n

Collider<\/a> reports that Dave Bautista is going from one ragtag gang of cosmic criminals to another. The\u00a0Guardians of the Galaxy<\/em> star has signed on to produce and star in the \u201cirreverent\u201d sci-fi fantasy movie\u00a0Universe\u2019s Most Wanted<\/em>, from\u00a0director\u00a0Brad Peyton, whose other directing credits include Journey 2: The Mysterious Island<\/em> and Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore<\/em>.<\/p>\n

F. Scott Frazier<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Jimmy Loweree<\/strong>\u00a0penned the script<\/a>, which takes place in a \u201csmall town that\u2019s in for a big surprise \u2014 and a fight for the world\u2019s survival \u2014 when a spaceship carrying the universe\u2019s most wanted and dangerous criminals crash-lands in their backyard. The sheriff\u2019s son soon becomes a hero when he finds himself helping an intergalactic peacekeeper (Bautista) to keep the ragtag group of alien prisoners from escaping and taking over the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Peyton will direct and produce the big-budget film under his ASAP Entertainment banner along with\u00a0Jeff Fierson<\/strong>, while Bautista will produce via his company Dream Bros Entertainment along with\u00a0Jonathan Meisner<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cJeff and I are incredibly excited to be teaming up with Dave, Jonathan and AGC on this project,\u201d Peyton said in a statement. \u201cScott and Jimmy are terrific writers and have conceived of the perfect sci-fi tentpole that fits perfectly into ASAP\u2019s brand and my directing sensibilities. We couldn\u2019t be more thrilled to get going on\u00a0Universe\u2019s Most Wanted<\/em>! This is the type of fun, mysterious and irreverent adventure we all need right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bautista\u2019s acting career has been one of exciting and radical choices, especially for a former WWE fighter \u2014 with Bautista charting a far more interesting early career than fellow former pro-fighters like Dwayne Johnson and John Cena. Bautista broke out big with his role in James Gunn\u2019s\u00a0Guardians of the Galaxy<\/em> and has been showing up regularly in high-concept sci-fi films ever since, with a transformative small role in\u00a0Blade Runner 2049<\/em>, and an upcoming reunion with his\u00a0Blade Runner 2049<\/em> director Denis Villeneuve in the upcoming Warner Bros. tentpole\u00a0Dune<\/em>. Bautista also stars in Zack Snyder\u2019s zombie heist movie for Netflix,\u00a0Army of the Dead<\/em>. Bautista has clearly found a home in sci-fi, though this team-up with Peyton may result in his most mainstream appeal since he trained a kid to be a spy.<\/p>\n

Production for\u00a0Universe\u2019s Most Wanted<\/em> is\u00a0slated to start in the spring, and\u00a0Stuart Ford\u2019s AGC Studios and CAA Media<\/a> Finance will start worldwide sales in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n
