“#Nick Viall Explains Why Rachel’s ‘Bachelorette’ Won’t Be on ‘Bachelor: Greatest Seasons\u2014Ever’<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

The Bachelor <\/span><\/i>franchise has gone through a real wakeup call in recent weeks, to say the least.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Former <\/span>Bachelorette <\/span><\/i>star Rachel Lindsay called out the show\u2019s lack of diversity, thousands of fans\u00a0signed a petition demanding the show hire more people of color for both in front of and behind the camera, Matt James was named the first Black star of The Bachelor<\/em>, and producers apologized for their part in the issue and promised to take real action to remedy the situation. So it looks like some actual change is starting to be made.<\/span><\/p>\n

And yet with all of this progress, Rachel\u2019s season of <\/span>The Bachelorette <\/span><\/i>didn\u2019t make the cut to air on ABC’s current retrospective series<\/a>, <\/span>The Bachelor: The Greatest Seasons \u2014 Ever!. <\/span><\/i>One would think producers would consider re-airing the <\/span>only <\/span><\/i>season starring a Black lead (before Matt James), especially right now. <\/span><\/p>\n

But it turns out there\u2019s a good reason why it’s not on the lineup \u2014 at least, according to former <\/span>Bachelor <\/span><\/i>star <\/span>Nick Viall.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The 39-year-old revealed on his<\/span>\u00a0Viall Files <\/span><\/i>podcast this week that the groundbreaking season’s omission is largely due to a licensing issue. <\/span>\u201cLogistically, and I don’t know why <\/span>The Bachelor <\/span><\/i>doesn\u2019t say just this, but they don\u2019t have the licensing to have Rachel\u2019s season be a part of the lineup, which is also why you\u2019re not seeing [Bachelorette<\/em> Season 8 star]\u00a0Emily Maynard\u2019s season,\u201d he explained.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cClearly that would be easily in one of the greatest of all time, and they\u2019re not airing that. And it\u2019s a licensing issue. That\u2019s what I\u2019ve heard from multiple reliable sources. It could potentially might not be true, but I\u2019m pretty sure it is.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cI’ve heard that floated around. So they don\u2019t even have the ability to do that. That being said, even if [they did include] Rachel’s season, it still highlights how white it has been. The optics just don’t look great.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
