\n They may be New York\u2019s Bravest, but they sure aren\u2019t New York\u2019s brightest.<\/p>\n

In a Brooklyn neighborhood overrun with nightly illegal fireworks, one resident found out that some of the amateur pyrotechnic aficionados are none other than local FDNY firefighters.<\/p>\n

The 33-year-old Crown Heights resident said he and his wife were passing by Ladder 123 on St. John\u2019s Place near Schenectady Avenue at about 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday night when he saw a group of firefighters ignite what app<\/a>ears to be a fountain firework display.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought it was young kids lighting it. And there are. But then I see the firefighters doing it \u2014 they should know better,\u201d the man, a father to five children who asked his name not be used, told The Post.<\/p>\n

Video he recorded at the scene shows the firework spray sparks into the night air from a device on the street.<\/p>\n

The man said one of the firefighters confronted him about filming the display \u2014 causing him to question whether they actually knew what they were doing was \u201cabsurd,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs public servants, I feel like they should know better than to light fireworks at 11:30 at night. It\u2019s completely brazen wantonness,\u201d the man said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like they didn\u2019t understand why what they were doing is so absurd. It\u2019s late at night, there are kids. You have to be responsible and set an example,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The use of illegal fireworks has skyrocketed across the city and is prevalent in neighborhoods like Crown Heights.<\/p>\n

City officials reported a 4,000-percent surge in firecracker complaints during the first two weeks of this month, with 849 reports to the city\u2019s 311 complaint line between June 1-14 \u2014 up from just 21 over the same time span last year.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s gotten so bad in Crown Heights that the man who filmed the firefighters says he and his family are hightailing it out of the city to a vacation home so his children aren\u2019t terrified.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery parent in Crown Heights thinks it\u2019s insane that fireworks are going off nonstop until 3 or 4 in the morning,\u201d he said. \u201cIt goes from dusk until almost dawn. It\u2019s a major issue for me and our community.\u201d<\/p>\n

The FDNY said they are investigating the incident.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
