\n Baby Yoda is probably a toddler by now.<\/p>\n

The second season of \u201cThe Mandalorian\u201d will be released at 3 a.m. EST Friday, and it continues the adventures of the motley intergalactic crew, including Season 1\u2019s breakout character, the cuddly, doe-eyed Baby Yoda. It also adds several high-profile new faces.<\/p>\n

Secrecy around the \u201cStar Wars\u201d spinoff remains tight, so few details about the eight new episodes have been revealed.<\/p>\n

What we do know is that it picks up shortly after Season 1, which premiered last year on Disney+.<\/p>\n

Armored bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) was hired to secure a \u201cchild\u201d for a crime boss, but had a change of heart when it came to turning over the adorable \u2014 and highly marketable \u2014 creature. Now Djarin\u2019s on the run from the bad guys, trying to return the child (known to fans as Baby Yoda) to his people.<\/p>\n

Also returning are Djarin\u2019s allies Greef Karga (Carl Weathers), the leader of the bounty hunter guild, and Cara Dune (former MMA fighter Gina Carano), a badass mercenary.<\/p>\n

The main villain app<\/a>ears to be Moff Gideon (2020 Emmy nominee Giancarlo Esposito), a former Imperial officer who covets Baby Yoda for unknown reasons.<\/p>\n

Gideon wields the Darksaber, a legendary weapon important to Djarin\u2019s Mandalorian people. It\u2019s unclear how Gideon got the laser sword, and Esposito has said that the Darksaber\u2019s backstory will be a \u201ckey\u201d<\/a> to Season 2.<\/p>\n

Another key will be the expanding cast. Series<\/a> creator Jon Favreau has said that he hopes Season 2 \u2014 which includes an episode directed by Bryce Dallas Howard \u2014 will take a cue from another popular fantasy series and its sprawling narrative.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe world was really captivated by \u2018Game<\/a> of Thrones\u2019 and how that evolved as the characters followed different storylines,\u201d Favreau told Entertainment Weekly.<\/a> \u201cThat\u2019s very appealing to me as an audience member.\u201d<\/p>\n

The news<\/a> is welcome, as one of the criticisms leveled at the first season was that it felt thin, like a simple Clint Eastwood Western stretched over eight hours.<\/p>\n

Arguably the most hotly anticipated new character is Ahsoka Tano, the plucky (and sometimes bratty) young apprentice to Anakin Skywalker in the 2008 animated series \u201cStar Wars: The Clone Wars.\u201d In 2015, Gizmodo called her<\/a> \u201cthe best thing to happen to \u2018Star Wars\u2019 in 20 years.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tano was a teenager during \u201cThe Clone Wars,\u201d but because \u201cThe Mandalorian\u201d takes place after the events depicted in \u201cReturn of the Jedi,\u201d when we see her now, she\u2019ll be middle-aged. (She is rumored to be played by 41-year-old Rosario Dawson.)<\/p>\n

Another fan-favorite who could make a return is Boba Fett. The popular bounty hunter seemingly died in \u201cReturn of the Jedi,\u201d but his reappearance was teased in Season 1 when a mysterious character\u2019s feet, accompanied by the sound of Fett\u2019s spurs, were briefly shown.<\/p>\n

Temuera Morrison, who played Jango Fett in the \u201cStar Wars\u201d prequels, is set to appear in \u201cThe Mandalorian,\u201d and some speculate that the 59-year-old actor will be strapping on Fett\u2019s iconic armor.<\/p>\n

Also joining is Katee Sackhoff (\u201cBattlestar Galactica\u201d), playing Mandalorian warrior Bo-Katan Kryze, a character she voiced in \u201cStar Wars: The Clone Wars.\u201d Bo-Katan was the last owner of the Darksaber, and her inclusion suggests that we\u2019ll probably learn how Gideon got the weapon.<\/p>\n

Then, there\u2019s Timothy Olyphant, no stranger to Westerns. The \u201cJustified\u201d and \u201cSanta Clarita Diet\u201d alum, 52, was tapped to play Cobb Vanth, a sheriff on Tatooine, Luke Skywalker\u2019s home planet.<\/p>\n

The filmmakers behind the series have promised the second season will be even better than the first, in the same way many found \u201cThe Empire Strikes Back\u201d to be superior to the original film.<\/p>\n

Fingers crossed. With the recent theatrical \u201cStar Wars\u201d releases disappointing many, fans could use a new hope.<\/p>\n
