{"id":102266,"date":"2020-10-31T22:52:48","date_gmt":"2020-10-31T19:52:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/nyc-stores-and-restaurants-board-up-for-election-day-turmoil\/"},"modified":"2020-10-31T22:52:48","modified_gmt":"2020-10-31T19:52:48","slug":"nyc-stores-and-restaurants-board-up-for-election-day-turmoil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/nyc-stores-and-restaurants-board-up-for-election-day-turmoil\/","title":{"rendered":"#NYC stores and restaurants board up for Election Day turmoil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#NYC stores and restaurants board up for Election Day turmoil<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/boarded-business-election-03.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n                        The lights went down, and the plywood continued to go up Saturday on old \u2018Board\u2019way \u2014 and across Manhattan in anticipation of Election Day unrest.<\/p>\n<p>The Post found workers at chain stores such as Staples, Ann Taylor, and a Bed Bath &amp; Beyond in Chelsea in the midst of hammering plywood across plate glass windows to ward off potential looters, as some nearby businesses, such as Argo Tea and Rosa Mexicana restaurant on Broadway, were already closed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo matter who wins, I think there are going to be angry people on both sides,\u201d Willy Portacarrero said at the Staples he manages at Sixth Avenue and 20th Street. \u201cWe intend to be open that day, and hopefully nothing is to h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Inside, cashier Janell, 45, described the girding for destruction \u2014 and the new lack of sunlight \u2014 as \u201ceerie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nearby art supply store Blick is already boarded up and plans to close at 3 p.m. Election Day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI doubt anything will happen,\u201d a security guard there said. \u201cBut for precautionary reasons, whatever we can do to stay safe is best,\u201d he said, especially given that no clear result may be tabulated until after Nov. 3.<\/p>\n<p>Still, there was no consensus whether the added measures would even be necessary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s going to be that dramatic,\u201d worker Harold Samaniedo, 30, said as he installed boards across the Bed Bath &amp; Beyond on Sixth between 18th and 19th streets.<\/p>\n<p>If anything, all the boarding up is just scaring people who weren\u2019t otherwise scared, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of them, they\u2019ll walk in, and they\u2019ll ask me, \u2018Man, what\u2019s going on?\u2019 It\u2019s alarming,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Other predictions were more grim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really sh\u2013ty, man!\u201d said one of the workers installing boards at the Ann Taylor on Sixth\u00a0 between 22nd and 21st Streets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe BLM\u2026it\u2019s f\u2014ed up. Because you shouldn\u2019t have to do this; you shouldn\u2019t have to live like this \u2026 they\u2019re not peaceful protesters,\u201d said the worker, Tim DiMondi, 50.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, the \u201cAntifa\u201d hoards he feared may descend on the city are likely not interested in looting that particular establishment, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an Ann Taylor,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\u2019re not looking for this.
