{"id":102399,"date":"2020-10-31T23:20:37","date_gmt":"2020-10-31T20:20:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/nypds-strategic-response-group-preps-for-post-election-riot\/"},"modified":"2020-10-31T23:20:37","modified_gmt":"2020-10-31T20:20:37","slug":"nypds-strategic-response-group-preps-for-post-election-riot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/nypds-strategic-response-group-preps-for-post-election-riot\/","title":{"rendered":"#NYPD&#8217;s Strategic Response Group preps for post-election riot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#NYPD&#8217;s Strategic Response Group preps for post-election riot<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n                        Fearing riots after Tuesday\u2019s election, New Yorkers are on edge \u2014 and that includes the NYPD.<\/p>\n<p>While Manhattan shopkeepers board up their businesses, the NYPD\u2019s elite Strategic Response Group has been amping up tactical training for weeks now in anticipation of possible violence and unrest.<\/p>\n<p>Their secret weapon is their bike squad, and the two-wheeled cops are deadly serious in their drilling.<\/p>\n<p>They hurtle down the steep, forbidding 138 steps of the so-called \u201cJoker\u201d staircase in the Highbridge section of the Bronx, not far from SRG headquarters, in order to make sure they can handle their Trek bikes like BMX champs in the middle of a riot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> is always up,\u201d Deputy Chief John J. D\u2019Adamo, the veteran boss of the SRG, told the Post. \u201cWe\u2019re hoping for the best this week but we\u2019re prepared for the worst. People have gotten emboldened out there. We\u2019re living through unprecedented times. But we\u2019re prepared for whatever might h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>en.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even so, D\u2019Adamo\u2019s crew was shocked by the speed with which a mostly peaceful protest in Brooklyn Tuesday night turned violent. The protesters reportedly got wind of the massive police presence and decided not to show up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre we are deterrent?\u201d D\u2019Adamo said. \u201cI\u2019d like to think so. I hope they saw we meant business. We are all about de-escalation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--If the slideshow is embedded in another post type add the inline wrapper --><\/p>\n<p>The roughly 600 officers in the rapid deployment unit are specially trained to react quickly to bad situations, like civil unrest, active shooters and large-scale terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday night, the unit\u2019s vans were crammed with bikes and everything from polycarbonate shields and fire extinguishers to Mace, and tourniquets and bandages.<\/p>\n<p>The unit has increased its mobilization drills in recent months as cops and civilians brace for possible post-election turbulence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe aren\u2019t against peaceful protests,\u201d D\u2019Adamo said. \u201cThe last thing we want to do is make arrests. We want people to be able to scream at the top of their lungs about whatever they want \u2014 and we also want them to finish what they have to do safely and get home safely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want our officers to get home safely, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That wasn\u2019t the case Tuesday night in Brooklyn, where cops clashed with about 200 protesters marching in Fort Greene who left a trail of destruction in their wake following the Philadelphia police shooting death of a black man armed with a knife.<\/p>\n<p>Protesters vandalized police vehicles, broke windows, torched an American flag and lit at least one rubbish fire. One cop suffered a leg injury when a car sped past a line of police officers after being ordered to stop. Police arrested 30 protesters.<\/p>\n<p><!--If the slideshow is embedded in another post type add the inline wrapper --><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was a cop during Occupy Wall Street and I thought that would be the worst I\u2019d ever see but I was wrong,\u201d an SRG officer who was injured in the protest Tuesday night told the Post. \u201cIn 16 years I\u2019ve never seen anything like what\u2019s going on now. We\u2019re getting bottles, bricks, you name it thrown at us now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The officer, who did not want his name used, said he was on foot Tuesday night when police declared the protest an unlawful assembly and called on demonstrators to disperse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of them rammed his bike into me and I fell to the ground,\u201d the officer said.<\/p>\n<p>The officer said he joined SRG after years on patrol because he wanted more action.<\/p>\n<p>The SRG was formed in 2015 by then-Commissioner Bill Bratton after shutting down what had been called the Task Force unit. The cops in SRG were to be trained in high-tech weaponry to deal with protests, and \u201clone wolf\u201d and terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, ISIS was a huge threat abroad and police feared it could strike in New York.<\/p>\n<p>The SRG crew is made of the finest of New York\u2019s Finest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a completely voluntary unit,\u201d D\u2019Adamo said. \u201cBut we don\u2019t take just anybody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>D\u2019Adamo says applicants must pass a fierce, one-hour verbal test designed to see if they can handle in-your-face confrontations. They also undergo five weeks of intensive heavy weapons, counter-terrorism, bike, Hazmat and medical training.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re the Swiss Army Knife of police units,\u201d Capt. David S.
