“#Nikki McKibbin, former ‘American Idol’ contestant, dead at 42<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n Nikki McKibbin, who app<\/a>eared on the first season of \u201cAmerican Idol,\u201d has died at the age of 42.<\/p>\n

McKibbin is said to have died of a brain aneurysm, TMZ reported<\/a> Sunday, citing sources close to McKibbin\u2019s family.<\/p>\n

McKibbin placed in the top three during \u201cAmerican Idol\u2019s\u201d debut season in 2002, finishing behind runner-up Justin Guarini and winner Kelly Clarkson. On Saturday, Guarini posted a touching tribute<\/a> to McKibbin on Instagram.<\/p>\n

\u201c@realnikkimckibbin was a fiery, funny lady who could sing the Hell out of a rock song with the same kind of ease and command she lovingly used to cut you with her twangy Southern wit,\u201d 42-year-old Guarini penned.<\/p>\n

\u201cRest well, \u2018Gypsy\u2019\u2026and thank you for the laughter, merciless teasing, strength, vulnerability, love and friendship you showed me during our time together in the spotlight. #rip #americanidol,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cAmerican Idol\u201d also honored McKibbin on Sunday, calling her an \u201cincredible talent.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNikki McKibbin was an incredible talent and we are deeply saddened by the news<\/a> of her passing. She was part of our American Idol family and will be truly missed. Our hearts and prayers go out to her family and friends during this difficult time,\u201d the show tweeted.<\/a><\/p>\n

In addition to \u201cAmerican Idol,\u201d McKibbin also starred in an episode of \u201cFear Factor,\u201d as well as the \u201cBattle of the Network Reality Stars.\u201d McKibbin also appeared on \u201cCelebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew\u201d in 2008.<\/p>\n

In 2014, McKibbin was featured on Season 13 of \u201cAmerican Idol,\u201d in which her teen son Tristan tried out for the show<\/a>.\n <\/div>\n
