\n The Texas Supreme Court on Sunday threw out a suit by a group of Republicans seeking to toss 127,000 votes cast at drive-thru voting places in the Houston area.<\/p>\n

The all-Republican court refused to consider the request, and did not provide an explanation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re pleased that the Texas Supreme Court recognized that their arguments that drive-thru voting is illegal are flat-out wrong,\u201d said Susan Hays, an attorney for the Harris County Clerk\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

\u201cLawsuits that are filed in the middle of an election to disrupt the election should be promptly denied.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some 1.4 million people have already voted in Harris County, Texas, which began allowing voters to drop their ballots off \u201cdrive-thru\u201d-style as a COVID-19 safety measure during this year\u2019s primaries.<\/p>\n

The similar challenge, however, will go before federal judge Andrew Hanen on Monday.<\/p>\n

Republicans suing to block the votes from being counted argue that only the state legislature, and not county government, can legalize drive-thru voting.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re hopeful that he\u2019ll stop this illegal form of voting from continuing to occur,\u201d said Jared Woodfill, the group\u2019s attorney.<\/p>\n

President Trump won Texas by nine point four years ago, but polls show it as a toss-up in 2020.<\/p>\n

The state has already surpassed its 2016 vote total.<\/p>\n
