“#Ed O’Neill remembers negotiating for huge pay increase on ‘Married with Children’<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n Ed O\u2019Neill says he\u2019s won the lottery twice.<\/p>\n

He starred in two long-running sitcoms, \u201cModern Family\u201d and \u201cMarried \u2026 with Children,\u201d that paid for a family home in Hawaii.<\/a><\/p>\n

But the 74-year-old actor recently told Page Six that he only really began to make serious change on \u201cMarried \u2026 with Children\u201d after the eighth season when his then-manager \u2014 the legendary Bernie Brillstein \u2014 negotiated a sweetheart deal.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Neill remembers that Brillstein explained they had Columbia TV, which produced the bawdy comedy, at a disadvantage because all the other cast had re-signed except him and he couldn\u2019t be replaced.<\/p>\n

He says that while Columbia exec Gary Lieberthal had offered him a huge amount, it wasn\u2019t what he and Brillstein felt was fair for his portrayal of famed hapless shoe salesman Al Bundy. And when they let Lieberthal know that, he blew a gasket.<\/p>\n

\u201cWha the f\u2014k are you talking about?\u201d Lieberthal allegedly bellowed three times after being told O\u2019Neill wouldn\u2019t sign.<\/p>\n

The \u201cLittle Giants\u201d actor claims that Columbia even had disgraced private investigator Anthony Pellicano trail him around when he claimed that he had a \u201cbad back\u201d and was unable to film the sitcom.<\/p>\n

About a week later, O\u2019Neill says he received a call from his manager letting him know they settled on an amount \u2014 only it wasn\u2019t enough for Brillstein, who decided that O\u2019Neill needed a new car thrown in too.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know the kid drives a Mustang, it\u2019s not even a convertible,\u201d O\u2019Neill remembers Brillstein saying to Lieberthal. \u201cThe number one guy on your number one show in a f\u2013king Mustang in your parking lot? Looks bad.<\/p>\n

\u201cGary said, \u2018What does he want, a Corvette?\u2019 Bernie said, \u2018I think he likes German cars. They got that Porsche dealership on Burbank, you know where it is. There\u2019s a black Porsche coupe with wire wheels, they were a Carrera 4, they were brand new. It was 95,000 then.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018It\u2019s on the showroom floor. Hey, take him over there on Monday. Have him come in early, drive him over, get him that car. Be that guy Gary, be that f\u2013king guy.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

That Monday morning, O\u2019Neill drove a Porsche Carrera 4 off the lot.<\/p>\n

\u201cMarried \u2026 with Children\u201d ran for eleven seasons and went off the air in 1997.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
