\n Quarterback Kyler Murray says he\u2019ll be kneeling during the national anthem this season.<\/p>\n

The Arizona Cardinals\u2019 emerging star \u2014 who was the NFL\u2019s Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2019 \u2014 wasn\u2019t particularly vocal about social<\/a> issues during his first season but said that would change in the aftermath of the killing of George Floyd, a black man, while in police custody in Minneapolis. <\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I\u2019ll be kneeling,\u201d Murray said Wednesday. \u201cI stand for what\u2019s right, that\u2019s the bottom line. I call it like I see it. What\u2019s been going on is completely wrong. I\u2019ll definitely be taking a knee.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old Murray said he didn\u2019t have a lot of bad experiences with the police growing up but added that he was lucky because he\u2019s usually recognized as a famous football player. The quarterback said the \u201cpeaceful protests, I think they\u2019re amazing\u201d and he is confident younger people will be the catalyst for real progress.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do feel like we\u2019ll see change,\u201d Murray said. \u201cJust because my generation, we\u2019re so diverse. We know what racism is but I feel like there\u2019s not a lot of it in my generation. <\/p>\n

\u201cI know generations above me, my parents\u2019 generation, there\u2019s a lot of racism, whether we want to believe it or not, there is. There\u2019s a lot of hate in this world, but I think what\u2019s happ<\/a>ening, what we\u2019re seeing right now, is huge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Murray joins other NFL players who have indicated they\u2019ll be kneeling during the anthem this season, including Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield. Murray and Mayfield are close friends who were teammates in college at Oklahoma and who won the Heisman Trophy in back-to-back seasons.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
