{"id":103835,"date":"2020-11-03T01:09:25","date_gmt":"2020-11-02T22:09:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/many-nyc-restaurants-beefing-up-security-closing-on-election-day\/"},"modified":"2020-11-03T01:09:25","modified_gmt":"2020-11-02T22:09:25","slug":"many-nyc-restaurants-beefing-up-security-closing-on-election-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/many-nyc-restaurants-beefing-up-security-closing-on-election-day\/","title":{"rendered":"#Many NYC restaurants beefing up security, closing on Election Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Many NYC restaurants beefing up security, closing on Election Day<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n                        New York City restaurants are getting ready in case Election Day comes served with a side of civil unrest.<\/p>\n<p>As retail shops from the Gucci boutique in Soho to the Macy\u2019s flagship on Herald Square board up their storefronts in case of riots, restaurants across Manhattan say they aren\u2019t fooling around, either.<\/p>\n<p>Patsy\u2019s Italian \u2014 the 75-year-old Neapolitan eatery at 236 W. 56th St. that was famously a favorite of Frank Sinatra \u2014 will be closed on Election Day \u201cfor security reasons,\u201d said Sal Scognamillo, the restaurant\u2019s third-generation chef\/owner.<\/p>\n<p>Scognamillo boarded up the eatery on Monday and also beefed up security \u2014 hiring two ex-NYPD armed guards for Election Day and Wednesday, when he plans to reopen. However, he says he will be \u201cmonitoring the climate to see how it goes. We hope to reopen for dinner on Wednesday but will play it by ear.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the case of restaurants, the New York Police Department has warned that outdoor tables and chairs that lately have become ubiquitous on sidewalks could be weaponized by riled-up crowds. Tao Downtown will be open for delivery only \u201cas we expect people will be home watching the election and may want food delivered,\u201d Tao Group co-owner Noah Tepperberg told Side Dish.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to worrying about the windows, some restaurants have been busy bolting safes to their venues\u2019 floors \u2014 despite the fact that the lock boxes typically are back-breakingly heavy, said restaurant consultant Rick Camac.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ened,\u201d Camac said. \u201cFour guys will break in and just walk out with a safe that weighs hundreds of pounds unless it is bolted to the cement floor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In an Oct. 22 letter to business owners and managers south of 59th Street, NYPD assistant chief Stephen J. Hughes warned that \u201cdemonstrations, rallies, and\/or protests\u201d are likely, and asked business owners to move or secure street items including furniture, trash cans, dumpsters, small planters, and \u201cany non-fastened miscellaneous items in front of stores or buildings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Downtown in TriBeCa, some developers are even \u201cbullet proofing\u201d their windows \u2014 to make sure protesters won\u2019t be able to smash them, which is what happened over the summer, Camac said, citing the case of one developer on Duane Street.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are prepared because of what happened over the summer, even though those riots feel like years ago,\u201d Camac said. \u201cWe have to do our own sanitation and hire our own security guards.
