He had been talking about making the movie as far back as 2008, but sadly, it never gained enough traction to get it to the starting line.<\/p>\n<p>It did, however, get far enough that del Toro\u2019s frequent collaborator, actor <strong>Doug Jones<\/strong>, saw a bust of his own head as Frankenstein\u2019s monster, and in a recent interview, he describes what his version of the classic horror character would have looked like.<span id=\"more-644138\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Speaking with <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/guillermo-del-toro-frankenstein-movie-details-doug-jones\/\">Collider<\/a>, Jones \u2013 who has played creatures in del Toro <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a> like from The Faun and the Pale Man in <em>Pan\u2019s Labyrinth<\/em>,\u00a0Abe Sapien in the <em>Hellboy<\/em> films, and the amphibian man in <em>The Shape of Water \u2013\u00a0<\/em>confirmed that del Toro did indeed want him to play Frankenstein\u2019s monster in his would-be film all those years ago, despite the fact that he doesn\u2019t have the giant build that you\u2019d expect for someone playing the character:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><!-- SlashFilm_300x250_In_Post -->\u201c[M]y first thought is that I\u2019m not the big, broad, big-boned lumbering Frankenstein that you have in mind. But it was told to me, Guillermo is a big fan of Bernie Wrightson, and a friend of Bernie Wrightson, and Bernie had illustrated a version of Mary Shelley\u2019s Frankenstein, and all of the images of Frankenstein\u2019s monster in that, that\u2019s what he was going to pattern my look after. Which was more emaciated, little skinnier, little more drawn, little more pathetic looking. And yet, had an unnatural physical prowess, an unnatural athleticism to him. He was sewn together with spare parts of a couple different bodies. Very bony face, long, stringy, drawn hair.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Here\u2019s one of Wrightson\u2019s illustrations, which makes it really easy to imagine how Jones could have looked in character:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-175541 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/Bernie-Wrightson-Rest-But-In-Death-550x825.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"825\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/Bernie-Wrightson-Rest-But-In-Death-550x825.jpg 550w, https:\/\/d13ezvd6yrslxm.cloudfront.net\/wp\/wp-content\/images\/Bernie-Wrightson-Rest-But-In-Death.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI never went through a makeup test myself for it,\u201d Jones continued. \u201cBut I did go to the creature shop, Spectral Motion, who was developing the look for him at the time\u2026I was in the creature shop for something else, and Mike Elizalde, the owner of the shop, said \u2018I gotta show you something.\u2019 Then he unveiled a head and shoulders bust of me with this monster makeup built on it. It was like, honestly, my eyes welled up. It was so hauntingly beautiful, and it did pay reverence to Bernie Wrightson\u2019s artwork and also gave you a different-looking Frankenstein monster than what you\u2019re used to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jones suspects that Universal\u2019s aborted Dark Universe, which was scr<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ed after the failure of Tom Cruise\u2019s <em>The Mummy<\/em>, could be the reason why del Toro\u2019s version never came to the big screen. The Dark Universe version of Frankenstein would have featured Javier Bardem as Frankenstein\u2019s monster, who was set to appear in another character\u2019s movie before getting his own solo film. Now that the studio is no longer worried about having that connective tissue between films, might we still one day see del Toro standing on a set for his <em>Frankenstein<\/em> project, screaming \u201cIt\u2019s alive!
