Resorts of the Northeast\u201d<\/a> by Rusty Tagliareni and Christina Mathews (Arcadia Publishing, out November 9), former bustling vacation hot spots such as Grossinger\u2019s Catskill Resort Hotel, the Summit honeymoon resort in the Poconos, the Empire Hotel and more are shown in their current dilapidated state replete with overgrown pools, ghostly lobbies and discarded furniture.<\/p>\n<figure items like couches and tables and lamps,\u201d said Tagliareni, who started the website <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/antiquityechoes.blogspot.com\/p\/welcome-to-antiquity-echoes.html\">AntiquityEchoes.com<\/a> with Mathews in 2009. \u201cThey\u2019re tr<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ed in time. Items that weren\u2019t paid attention to when they were being used. There\u2019s a strange type of beauty to that decay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The duo has been documenting old sites since 2008; their previous book, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Abandoned-Asylums-Northeast-Rusty-Tagliareni\/dp\/1634990994?tag=nypost-20\">\u201cAbandoned Asylums of the Northeast,\u201d<\/a> showed similarly haunting ruins of sprawling mental-health facilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you\u2019re documenting a resort or asylum, you\u2019re talking about a lot of transient lives that went through those buildings,\u201d said Tagliareni. \u201c[Christina and I] grew up in a time after the downfall of these major resorts, so we don\u2019t have first-hand experience with these places. But through visiting them, we\u2019ve gained a lot of respect for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Heart_of_Old\"><\/span>Heart of Old<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><!--If the slideshow is embedded in another post type add the inline wrapper --><\/p>\n<p>At the Summit couples resort in the Poconos, which opened in 1968, honeymooners basked in a heart-shaped tub, which fell into disrepair when the resort shuttered for good in 2002.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Lapse_of_Luxury\"><\/span>Lapse of Luxury<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><!--If the slideshow is embedded in another post type add the inline wrapper --><\/p>\n<p>By 1972, Grossinger\u2019s Catskill Resort Hotel \u2014 set on 1,000 acres in Liberty, NY \u2014 was visited by more than 150,000 guests each year. The gigantic indoor pool, once dappled with light, is now home to overgrown vegetation that\u2019s thriving perhaps due to the terrarium-like windowed setting.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Stage_Dive\"><\/span>Stage Dive<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><!--If the slideshow is embedded in another post type add the inline wrapper --><\/p>\n<p>The 10-story Nevele Grand Hotel stood on a wooded perch in Wawarsing, NY, deep in the Catskills. The sprawling Stardust Room, where guests gathered for live music and entertainment, has been ghostly empty since the resort closed in 2009.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Yucky_Strike\"><\/span>Yucky Strike<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><!--If the slideshow is embedded in another post type add the inline wrapper --><\/p>\n<p>Borscht Belt mainstay the Homowack Lodge was considered a delightful destination spot in Mamakating, NY, where visitors could eat, drink and topple pins in the basement bowling alley.
