Yet, while this consistent relationship has been largely positive from Homo sapiens\u2019 standpoint \u2014 after all, horses work for us, compete for us and provide us with emotional support \u2014 a new study has revealed that these majestic ruminants are <em>mare<\/em>-ried to no one.<\/p>\n<p>Turns out, they\u2019re just using us, too.<\/p>\n<p>Veterinary researchers from Sweden\u2019s Link\u00f6ping University set out to determine whether or not horses could \u201clove\u201d humans, in the sense that they form an attachment to a particular person and reciprocate affection.<\/p>\n<p>While observing 26 horses, their owners and several other human controls, researchers found that horses frequently exhibited higher heart rates while separated from <em>any<\/em> human, \u201cirrespective of whether it was the owner or the stranger,\u201d the authors explained in their report to be <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S016815912030232X?via=ihub#bib0020\">published in Applied Animal Behaviour Science<\/a> next month.<\/p>\n<p>Their findings suggest that horses consider humans \u201csafe havens\u201d and are soothed in our presence, but they aren\u2019t especially attached to one person over another.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers put this to the test by putting the horses in stressful situations \u2014 in this case, leaving them alone in an unfamiliar pen \u2014 and assessing how the horses reacted with each human. \u201cEven if horses are trained to be alone they still respond with higher heart rate when <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a>ly separated from others,\u201d the authors wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers compared horses to dogs (<em>still<\/em> humans\u2019 best friend) who \u201cbecome stressed during separation from their owner, and \u2026 seek proximity and comfort upon reunion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition, dogs repeatedly reveal behaviors such as increased play and exploratory behavior together with their owner,\u201d the researchers wrote. \u201cTo our knowledge, this has not been documented in horses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Initially, the researchers hypothesized that a strong connection might be based on positive reinforcement. <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s10071-010-0326-9\">Previous studies<\/a> had shown that horses responded more readily to humans when rewarded with food, as opposed to humans without food, and thought this mutually beneficial exchange may promote deeper bonds between the two species.\n            <\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">For forums sites go to <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><a style=\"color: #ff9900;\" href=\"https:\/\/forum.buradabiliyorum.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Forum.BuradaBiliyorum.Com<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>If you want to read more <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> articles, you can visit our <span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><a style=\"color: #ff9900;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">News category.<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: black;\"><a style=\"color: #ff9900;\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/11\/03\/horses-dont-love-us-as-much-as-we-love-them-study\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Source<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;#Horses don&#8217;t love us as much as we love them: study&#8221; Buttercup giving you the colt shoulder?
