It started on The WB in September 2005, successfully moved to The CW after its first season, survived the cancellation bubble more than once, outlasted its original creator, maintained an extremely loyal and active fanbase, and finally wr<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ed in the middle of a pandemic after an extraordinary lifespan of 327 episodes and 15 seasons.<\/p>\n<p>Brimming with family bonds and metaphysical exploration, the fantasy drama tracks the give-\u2019em-hell exploits of the demon-hunting Winchester brothers \u2014 research-minded Sam (Padalecki) and his gruff, cheeseburger-loving older bro, Dean (Ackles)\u2014 and their various allies and enemies.<\/p>\n<p>To pay tribute to the record-breaker before the breathlessly awaited series finale on November 19, we asked <i>Supernatural<\/i>\u2019s cast and crew to offer their memories of the road so far.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2004%E2%80%9305_The_Dream\"><\/span><strong>2004\u201305: The Dream<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><i>Since the &#8217;90s, <\/i>Supernatural<i> creator Kripke (currently heading up Prime Video\u2019s <\/i>The Boys<i>) had wanted to do a series about folklore, like the phantom hitchhiker and Bloody Mary. After producing his short-lived 2003 drama <\/i>Tarzan <i>for<\/i> <i>The WB, Warner Bros. exec Susan Rovner asked Kripke to pitch a new show. He was ready\u2026mostly.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Eric Kripke: <\/b>I came up with an idea about a reporter who <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>ed around in a van writing about urban legends. It was basically a terrible rip-off of [<i>Kolchak: <\/i><i>The<\/i>] <i>Night Stalker.<\/i> Susan wasn\u2019t interested in the reporter, but liked the area of urban legends and asked if I had anything else. The first rule of pitching: Always say you can ride the horse. I said, \u201cI have another version about two guys cruising the country, diving in and out of these legends.\u201d Then, on the spot, I made up \u201c\u2026and they\u2019re brothers.\u201d I told her all my notes were at home and spent a week writing what became the pitch for <i>Supernatural<\/i>.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Casting_Magic\"><\/span><strong>Casting Magic<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><i>Warner Bros. Television Studios and The WB auditioned a batch of young actors for the Winchesters, but history was made when Padalecki (then on<\/i> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/tvinsider.com\/show\/gilmore-girls\">Gilmore Girls<\/a><i>) and <\/i><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/tvinsider.com\/show\/smallville\">Smallville<\/a><i>\u2019s Ackles read together.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Kripke: <\/b>Jared and Jensen were both in contention for the role of Sam. [Warner Bros. Television president] Peter Roth didn\u2019t like any of our Deans and asked, \u201cWhy don\u2019t you make Jensen Dean?\u201d So, we went and told Jensen that we didn\u2019t know if he was interested, but he could get the part of Dean, and he said, \u201cThat\u2019s the part I wanted anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b>Jensen Ackles:<\/b> When I walked into the waiting room to read for Dean, Jared, who was reading for Sam, was the only guy there. As we performed for maybe 30 execs, I [thought], \u201cThis could easily work.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Jared Padalecki: <\/b>If you had told me 16 years ago that I was auditioning for something that would go for 15 [seasons], I would have been even more nervous than I was. We read through several scenes, and there was no applause or laughter. But after we came back from the waiting room, Peter Roth congratulated us and everyone stood up and started clapping. It was a pretty magical start.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Oh_Baby\"><\/span><strong>Oh, Baby!<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><i>A 1967 Chevy Impala was Sam and Dean\u2019s <\/i><i>only home for many years. The iconic <\/i><i>car (nine different vehicles were used in the series<\/i><i>) even had its own POV episode in <\/i><i>Season 11! Baby meant so much to the stars, in fact, that they both now have &#8217;67 Impalas parked at their Texas homes.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Kripke: <\/b>Having a car that was like the third lead of the show was really important to me. When I told my neighbor in Venice [California], who was a mechanic, that I wanted a badass car and was thinking of a &#8217;65 Mustang, he said, \u201cYeah, a Mustang is the perfect car if you\u2019re a p**sy.\u201d And without missing a beat, he said, \u201cYou want a &#8217;67 Impala because you can put a body in that trunk.\u201d I ran to my computer to look it up, and it was perfect.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-947239\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/supernatural-sam-dean.jpg\" alt=\"supernatural\" width=\"2028\" height=\"1352\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/supernatural-sam-dean.jpg 2028w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/supernatural-sam-dean-434x289.jpg 434w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/supernatural-sam-dean-855x570.jpg 855w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/supernatural-sam-dean-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/supernatural-sam-dean-234x155.jpg 234w, https:\/\/www.tvinsider.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/supernatural-sam-dean-570x380.jpg 570w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2028px) 100vw, 2028px\"\/><\/p>\n<p><b>Ackles: <\/b>From the pilot, it was clear the Impala was a vital part of the story. It was the third Winchester!<\/p>\n<p><b>Padalecki:<\/b> The first song I listened to when I got in [my] Impala [gifted to him after the series\u2019 wrap] was \u201cCarry On Wayward Son.\u201d [The 1976 Kansas jam is the closest to a theme song the show has.] I see it in my garage and I already feel nostalgic about how many hours of my life I probably spent in that vehicle.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2005_More_Than_a_Monster_of_the_Week\"><\/span><strong>2005: More Than a Monster of the Week\u00a0<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><i>Kripke set up his concept of a weekly beast-based horror flick in the September 13, 2005, pilot with a flashback to the fiery death of Sam and Dean\u2019s mother, Mary (Samantha Smith), at the hands of the yellow-eyed demon Azazel (Frederic Lehne). Twenty-two years later, the widowed John Winchester (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and his older <\/i><i>son, Dean, spend their time hunting, yes, demons. When Azazel strikes again, ordering the slaughter of younger son Sam\u2019s girlfriend (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/tvinsider.com\/people\/adrianne-palicki\">Adrianne Palicki<\/a>), Sam opts to skip law school and join the family business as well.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Ackles: <\/b>When we moved up to Vancouver [<i>the pilot shot in Los Angeles<\/i>], Kripke pulled us aside and said, \u201cI could write monsters for days, but this show begins and ends with the relationship these brothers have.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Kripke: <\/b>[Future showrunner] Sera Gamble and [writer] Raelle Tucker\u2019s first script, \u201cDead in the Water\u201d [Episode 3; September 27, 2005], put Jared and Jensen together as \u201cthe boys\u201d [<i>their unofficial <\/i>SPN<i> moniker<\/i>], and they had an off-the-charts chemical reaction. Concurrently, we overreached on several monsters. It wasn\u2019t working from a production standpoint. \u201cBugs\u201d [Episode 8; November 8, 2005] was famously terrible. I went to [exec producer] Bob Singer and told him the visuals were coming off like cheesy B movies. He said that we should focus on [Sam and Dean] \u2014 and the monsters have to be [more like] characters.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Robert Singer: <\/b>Eric used to say, \u201cIs it a Google-able monster?\u201d I think within the first order of 13 episodes, we realized that would run out in a hurry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2006: Daddy Issues<\/strong><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"><br \/><\/span><i\/><\/p>\n<p><i>In the Season 1 finale, \u201cDevil\u2019s Trap\u201d (May 4, 2006), viewers meet fellow hunter Bobby Singer (Jim Beaver), an ally and father figure while absentee dad John hunted. (We later learn about John\u2019s other son, the boys\u2019 half brother, Adam, played by Jake Abel.) Just in time: Season 2\u2019s \u201cIn My Time of Dying\u201d (September 28, 2006) sees John giving his life to save Dean.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Jeffrey Dean Morgan: <\/b>John Winchester loved his sons. He did the best he could, and he died for them. That was the John I played. After I was off the show [though], I became aware how John could be an a**hole.<\/p>\n<p><b>Jim Beaver:<\/b> When I was invited back for a second episode, I learned that Bobby [would act as] their surrogate father while John was off hunting. Sam and Dean are Bobby\u2019s boys, no matter what their birth certificates say.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>This was Part 1 of our three-part oral history.
