Researchers found these bodies, mixtures of several types of rock, were from the planet\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"cm lf\" href=\"https:\/\/thecosmiccompanion.net\/the-future-of-farming-on-mars\/\">Mars<\/a>. One of these rare pieces of Mars, NWA 7533, was recently examined by investigators from the University of Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p id=\"5334\" class=\"hv hw fh hx b hy hz ia ib ic id ie if ig ih ii ij ik il im in io ip iq ir is ez cg\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">\u201cI study minerals in Martian meteorites to understand how Mars formed and its crust and mantle evolved. This is the first time I have investigated this particular meteorite, nicknamed Black Beauty for its dark color. Our samples of NWA 7533 were subjected to four different kinds of spectroscopic analysis, ways of detecting chemical fingerprints. The results led our team to draw some exciting conclusions.\u201d Professor<span>\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"cm lf\" href=\"https:\/\/www.u-tokyo.ac.jp\/focus\/en\/press\/z0508_00141.html\">Takashi Mikouchi<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>from the University of Tokyo states.<\/p>\n<p id=\"a6c3\" class=\"hv hw fh hx b hy hz ia ib ic id ie if ig ih ii ij ik il im in io ip iq ir is ez cg\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Analysis of the Martian meteorite NWA 7533 provides evidence that the origin of<span>\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"cm lf\" href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/the-cosmic-companion\/dawn-finds-dwarf-planet-ceres-is-a-water-rich-world-71ba20c1e65d?source=friends_link&amp;sk=506e7e8503224526f70830c63c69ed1e\">water<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span>on planets is likely mostly chemical, rather than interplanetary.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"fd7d\" class=\"kf kg fh au kh ki kj kk kl km kn ko kp kq kr ks kt ku kv kw kx ky kz la lb lc cg\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Not_staying_hydrated_is_a_mistake\"><\/span>Not staying hydrated is a mistake<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"lg lh li\">\n<p id=\"e5b2\" class=\"hv hw iu hx b hy hz ia ib ic id ie if ig ih ii ij ik il im in io ip iq ir is ez cg\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Water is patient, Adelaide. Water always wins. \u2014 Dr. Who, The Waters of Mars<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p id=\"f884\" class=\"hv hw fh hx b hy hz ia ib ic id ie if ig ih ii ij ik il im in io ip iq ir is ez cg\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">Water is found throughout the Solar System, including a new discovery of<span>\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"cm lf\" href=\"https:\/\/thecosmiccompanion.net\/water-on-the-moon-isnt-just-hiding-in-the-shadows-2\/\">ice trapped on the sunlit face of the Moon<\/a>. More than 3.7 billion years ago, Mars was home to vast oceans, and possibly primitive life. This oxidation could have occurred if there was water present on or in the Martian crust 4.4 billion years ago during an impact that melted part of the crust,\u201d Mikouchi adds.<\/p>\n<p id=\"a5ff\" class=\"hv hw fh hx b hy hz ia ib ic id ie if ig ih ii ij ik il im in io ip iq ir is ez cg\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">These reactions would have released vast quantities of hydrogen. On<span>\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"cm lf\" href=\"https:\/\/anchor.fm\/the-cosmic-companion\/episodes\/Interview-with-Matija-Cuk--research-scientist-at-the-SETI-Institute---Astronomy-News-with-The-Cosmic-Companion-Video-and-Podcast-June-16--2020-eilbec\/a-a3hfnoa\">Mars<\/a>, with an atmosphere that was already rich in carbon dioxide (CO2), temperatures would have risen, moderating the climate, if only for a time.<\/p>\n<p id=\"8a14\" class=\"hv hw fh hx b hy hz ia ib ic id ie if ig ih ii ij ik il im in io ip iq ir is ez cg\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">\u201cSuch an early oxidation of the crust by impacts in the presence of water may have supplied greenhouse gas [hydrogen] that caused an increase in surface temperature in a CO2-thick atmosphere,\u201d researchers describe in an article published in<span>\u00a0<\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"cm lf\" href=\"https:\/\/advances.sciencemag.org\/content\/6\/44\/eabc4941\"><em class=\"iu\">Science Advances<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"33c7\" class=\"hv hw fh hx b hy hz ia ib ic id ie if ig ih ii ij ik il im in io ip iq ir is ez cg\" data-selectable-paragraph=\"\">By learning how chemical reactions may be responsible for the origin of water on planets, astronomers may learn more about water on distant exoplanets.
