\n Even Rory McIlroy was in awe.<\/p>\n

Bryson DeChambeau\u2019s hulking frame and massive drives are the talk of the PGA Tour\u2019s restart after one event.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, I mean, obviously, at the start of the year, he came out, and he was a bit bigger,\u201d McIlroy told reporters Wednesday ahead of the HBC Heritage Open. \u201cYou could see he was getting a bit of speed and stuff, and he was hitting it a long way. But he hit a couple drives on Sunday that (caddie) Harry [Diamond] and I just looked at each other, and we\u2019re like, holy s\u2013t, that was unbelievable.\u201d<\/p>\n

DeChambeau, 26, added 20 pounds of muscle during the coronavirus shutdown and 45 pounds overall. He led the field in driving distance at the Charles Schwab Challenge, averaging 340 yards. McIlroy, who played the final round with DeChambeau and is known as one of the longer hitters on the PGA Tour, averaged 315 yards off the tee.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe hit one into the wind on 11,\u201d McIlroy said. \u201cI hit a really good one and probably hit it like 315, 320. He must have flew my ball by 40 yards. He hit it like 370, 375 into the wind. It was crazy. It was nuts. It\u2019s unbelievable.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, McIlroy said that kind of weight gain would not suit his own game<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI actually feel my best when I\u2019m lighter,\u201d McIlroy said. \u201cI was probably at my lightest at the start of the season, sort of that California swing, at Torrey Pines. I remember weighing myself at Torrey on the Sunday morning before going out to the final round, and I was like 155. I think that\u2019s half of Bryson now.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
