Hot off her starring role as the second Mrs. de Winter in Netflix\u2019s recent remake of Rebecca<\/em>, Lily James<\/strong> is lining up a new movie project.<\/p>\n

James is set to co-star with Emma Thompson<\/strong> (Late Night<\/em>, Last Christmas<\/em>) and Shazad Latif<\/strong> (Star Trek: Discovery<\/em>) in a new romantic comedy from Working Title called What\u2019s Love Got to Do With It?<\/strong><\/em> Here\u2019s what we know so far.

According to a report from Deadline, Jemima Khan<\/strong> (Impeachment: American Crime Story<\/em>) is writing and producing the new rom-com, which will be directed by\u00a0Shekhar Kapur<\/strong>, who helmed 1998\u2019s Elizabeth<\/em> and 2007\u2019s Elizabeth: The Golden Age<\/em>. Plot details are still being kept close to the vest, but\u00a0What\u2019s Love Got to Do With It?<\/em> is being described as a \u201ccross-cultural rom-com\u201d about love and marriage, and it\u2019s app<\/a>arently set between London and South Asia. One assumes that Latif\u2019s character will be falling for James\u2019s, but there\u2019s no confirmation about that and no word yet about who Thompson will be playing. (Maybe James\u2019s mother?)
\nJames is well known for her roles in Baby Driver<\/em>, Cinderella<\/em>, Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!<\/em>, and Downton Abbey<\/em>, but Latif has not quite reached her level of fame. Still, you\u2019ve almost certainly seen his work: he has credits on a wide-ranging amount of projects including MI-5<\/em>, Black Mirror<\/em>, The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel<\/em>, Penny Dreadful<\/em>, The Commuter<\/em>, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance<\/em>, and Star Trek: Discovery<\/em>. Thompson, of course, is two-time Oscar winning writer and actress who has appeared in Sense and Sensibility<\/em>, Love Actually<\/em>, and multiple Harry Potter<\/em> movies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear if the Tina Turner song is going to factor into the movie\u2019s soundtrack, or if it just inspired this title.<\/p>\n

Studiocanal is set to fully finance the movie, which will be produced by writer Jemima Khan, Nicky Kentish Barnes<\/strong> (About A Boy<\/i>), and Working Title\u2019s Eric Fellner<\/strong> and Tim Bevan<\/strong>. Khan has produced a handful of things in the past, including last year\u2019s HBO series The Case Against Adnan Syed<\/em> and The Clinton Affair<\/em>, but this will mark her screenwriting debut. Kapur hasn\u2019t directed a narrative feature film since 2007, instead working in television and making documentaries and short films since Elizabeth: The Golden Age<\/em>. It should be interesting to see how all the pieces come together on this one.<\/p>\n

Production is slated to begin sometime in December 2020, and there\u2019s no release date envisioned or distribution company attached at this time.<\/p>\n
