“# Global law firm launches ‘high value asset’ token platform \u2018TOKO\u2019 <\/strong>”

TOKO, a new tokenization platform targeting \u2018high-value assets\u2019 has launched as a proof-of-concept by tokenizing a piece of fine art.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The platform is a collaboration between international law firm\u00a0DLA Piper<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 which operates in more than 40 countries \u2014 Aldersgate DLS and\u00a0Hedera Hashgraph<\/a>. Although it has the ability to function across any asset class, the team identified the best use case \u201cfor high value assets in alternative asset classes such as real estate and art.\u201d<\/p>\n

TOKO will initially function in markets that have a clear regulatory framework on asset tokenization such as \u201cthe UK, Singapore, Switzerland, US, Canada and potentially Australia,\u201d however the team is also \u201ccurrently examining the local restrictions and regulations\u201d in other potential markets, and aims \u201cto provide this offering one way or another to all of our clients\u201d.<\/p>\n

On its first day of launch, TOKO completed the first tokenization of a piece of fine artwork commissioned and purchased by a group of DLA Piper Hong Kong partners.<\/p>\n

DLA Piper Technology<\/a> partner Scott Thiel said the platform is the culmination of \u201cyears of research and development\u201d into the \u201clegal issues surrounding security token creation and fundraising\u201d. He noted the difficulties current platforms faced in delivering such offerings at scale.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for DLA Piper said that TOKO \u201ccan reduce the risk of fraud through the strict, timestamped audit trails created through blockchain functionality\u201d and that \u201ctokenization also enables exit opportunities.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cOur clients understand the technology and smart contracts, and see the benefits tokenisation can provide in terms of the trust and efficiency it can create in fractionalising assets.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

DLA Piper has also engaged BCW Group as Program Manager to shape the go-to-market strategy and form regtech infrastructure partnerships, and Luther Systems, who act as the systems integrator for TOKO.<\/p>\n

In February 2019, DLA Piper launched<\/a> their Blockchain and Digital Assets practice to aid companies seeking blockchain adoption. Last week, head of fintech at DLA Martin Bartlam and DLA Piper associate Marina Troullinou suggested the digital asset industry has become a key driver of global financial markets.<\/p>\n

In September, a real estate marketplace that offered tokenization launched for U.S. customers, providing them the opportunity to invest in the asset class for as little as $5,000.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
