\n Al Roker has prostate cancer.<\/p>\n

The \u201cToday\u201d show co-host, 66, announced on Friday\u2019s show<\/a> that he will be taking time off to undergo surgery.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter a routine check-up in September, turns out I have prostate cancer,\u201d Roker said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s a good news<\/a>-bad news kind of thing. The good news is we caught it early, not great news is that it\u2019s a little aggressive so I\u2019m going to be taking some time off to take care of this.\u201d<\/p>\n

After a red flag \u2014 a high prostate-specific antigen level \u2014 was raised at a physical on Sept. 29, Roker got an MRI and then a biopsy, which confirmed his diagnosis. He said he was fortunate to be able to form a \u201ctreatment plan early in my disease.\u201d<\/p>\n

The beloved weather forecaster will undergo surgery to remove his prostate at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. From there, \u201cwe\u2019ll just wait and see,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Roker said he hopes to return to the NBC morning program in about two weeks.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cI don\u2019t want people thinking, \u2018Poor Al\u2019 because I\u2019m going to be OK.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
