\n Johnny Depp is a little less fantastic today.<\/p>\n

In a signed letter posted Friday morning on Instagram<\/a>, the 57-year-old actor said he has withdrawn from the sequel film \u201cFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 3\u201d at the request of franchise studio Warner Bros. The move comes in the wake of his losing a libel case<\/a> against The Sun on Monday.<\/p>\n

In the note, Depp thanked \u201ceverybody who has gifted me with their support and loyalty,\u201d adding that he was \u201chumbled and moved by your many messages of love and concern, particularly over the last few days.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros. from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and agreed to that request,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

The sequel was expected to be released in November 2021.<\/p>\n

Depp\u2019s exit stems from a dramatic months-long London trial that included allegations of infidelity, abuse and even bed-defecation<\/a> that ensnared the actor and his ex-wife, actress Amber Heard. In this week\u2019s decision, the judge said a Sun headline calling Depp a \u201cwife-beater\u201d was \u201csubstantially true.\u201d<\/p>\n

Depp sued the paper and its executive editor, Dan Wootton, over an April 2018 headline using that label, based on Heard\u2019s accusations. During the trial Heard, 34, called Depp<\/a> a \u201cmonster.\u201d<\/p>\n

Depp called the court decision \u201csurreal\u201d and vowed to \u201cfight to tell the truth. He also confirmed that he plans to app<\/a>eal.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false,\u201d he continued. \u201cMy life and career will not be defined by this moment in time.\u201d<\/p>\n
