\nIt\u2019s shaping up to be \u201cangry, litigious white dudes lose their jobs\u201d day!<\/p>\n

While the election race is narrowing in the US, a Wizarding World shakeup has occurred across the pond. Johnny Depp<\/strong>, whose portrayal of Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts<\/em> franchise has been controversial pretty much from his first casting, was fired from the Harry Potter<\/em> spinoff on Friday.<\/p>\n

The actor was the first to break the news<\/a> in an announcement on Instagram<\/strong>. He wrote:<\/p>\n

\u201cIn light of recent events, I would like to make the following short statement. Firstly I\u2019d like to thank everybody who has gifted me with their support and loyalty. I have been humbled and moved by your many messages of love and concern, particularly over the last few days.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Considering the ramifications of his court loss, the support\u00a0now<\/em> really is going out on a limb. Then he dropped the big news:<\/p>\n

\u201cSecondly, I wish to let you know that I have been asked to resign by Warner Bros.<\/strong> from my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected that and agreed to that request.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Oop, there it is!<\/p>\n

This news follows the Pirates of the Caribbean<\/em> star\u2019s loss in the UK court earlier this week over his libel suit against The Sun<\/em>. Depp sued the outlet for referring to him as a \u201cwife-beater,\u201d but you may have forgotten the headline that sparked the case specifically referred to his Fantastic Beasts <\/em>role. It read:<\/p>\n

\u201cHow can JK Rowling<\/strong> be \u2018genuinely happ<\/a>y\u2019 casting wife-beater Johnny Depp in the new Fantastic Beasts<\/em> film?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Innerestingly since that headline we\u2019ve now reached the point where Rowling\u2019s PR is worse than Johnny\u2019s \u2014 but we digress.<\/p>\n

The 57-year-old concluded his statement with a reference to the failed suit, saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cFinally I wish to say this, The surreal judgement of the court in the UK will not change my fight to tell the truth and I confirm that I plan to appeal.
\nMy resolve remains strong and I intend to prove that the allegations against me are false. My life and career will not be defined by this moment in time.
