Five years ago, Robert Eggers<\/strong> burst onto the scene with The Witch<\/em>, a slow-burn horror film that launched the career of actress\u00a0Anya Taylor-Joy<\/strong>. Now he\u2019s reuniting with The Queen\u2019s Gambit<\/em> star for The Northman<\/strong><\/em>, a Viking revenge movie which has Alexander Skarsg\u00e5rd<\/strong>\u00a0playing the lead role.<\/p>\n

Taylor-Joy recently spoke a bit about the upcoming movie, teasing that it will be something the world \u201cgenuinely hasn\u2019t seen before.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Taylor-Joy couldn\u2019t get into any specifics about The Northman<\/em> during a recent interview with Collider<\/a>, but she did a nice job getting us even more amped to see it:
\n\u201cI am so proud to be a part of this project,\u201d she said. \u201cEvery moment on set I am proud. I think we will be presenting to the world something it genuinely hasn\u2019t seen before. I just feel so genuinely humbled that I get to be a part of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anyone who has seen The Lighthouse<\/em> or The Witch<\/em> knows that Eggers doesn\u2019t make the types of traditional movies<\/a> that the world is familiar with, but it\u2019s nice to hear one of the people involved confirm that this won\u2019t be a conventional, run-of-the-mill revenge story. The plot of The Northman<\/em> reportedly involves a Nordic prince (Skarsg\u00e5rd) who goes on a quest to avenge his murdered father. Taylor-Joy,\u00a0Willem Dafoe<\/strong> (The Lighthouse<\/em>), Ethan Hawke<\/strong> (First Reformed<\/em>), and Bj\u00f6rk<\/strong>\u00a0(Dancer in the Dark<\/em>) are among the cast members.<\/p>\n

Oscar winner Nicole Kidman<\/strong> is joining the film\u2019s impressive cast as well, boosting its profile even more. This project will mark a reunion of her own, with her former Big Little Lies<\/em> co-star (and character\u2019s abusive husband) Skarsg\u00e5rd. In a separate interview, Kidman told Collider that she was \u201cterrified\u201d as she\u2019s about to join the production that\u2019s currently underway in Ireland. But it sounds like her fear is driven by the challenges of the unknown \u2013 \u201ca lot of times, I make very spontaneous and rather bold decisions with very little caution or thought,\u201d she said of taking her role. I suspect Eggers\u2019 laser-sharp attention to detail and achieving period accuracy will make this shoot a bit more difficult than what she\u2019s used to. Taylor-Joy was excited to get back to that immersive (if uncomfortable) shooting style:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s Robert Eggers! People showed up on our set and were like, \u2018Ah, OK, so it\u2019s a real<\/em> Robert Eggers movie,’\u201d Taylor-Joy said, talking about the harsh filming conditions. \u201cAnd I\u2019m like, \u2018Yeah, you\u2019re going to be cold, you\u2019re never going to be comfortable, but it\u2019s going to be amazing. That\u2019s just the way it is.’\u201d<\/p>\n

I love that Kidman is embracing this opportunity instead of shying away from it like so many other actors of her caliber might, and I can\u2019t wait to see the insanity that Eggers has up his sleeve.
