\n \u201cPopular Mechanics\u201d magazine has come under fire after publishing a detailed guide on toppling monuments.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBring that sucker down without anyone getting hurt,\u201d the article posted Monday encourages readers, promising the best advice on \u201chow to topple a statue using science<\/a>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Author James Stout says his article is inspired by the worldwide attacks on \u201cproblematic monuments\u201d tied to the \u201clegacy of racism\u201d amid ongoing protests.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cShould you happ<\/a>en to find yourself near a statue that you decide you no longer like, we asked scientists for the best, safest ways to bring it to the ground without anyone getting hurt \u2014 except, of course, for the inanimate racist who\u2019s been dead for a century anyway,\u201d the article says.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mechanical engineer Scott Holland then advised how \u2014 with about 70 strong friends \u2014 protesters could pull down most statues with 4\u00d74 recovery straps \u201caround the head or the neck.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Holland also suggested using a butane or propane torch to heat up the statue, saying, \u201cYou\u2019ll be there for 15 to 20 minutes, but it\u2019s a lot easier.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Failing that, there\u2019s also a \u201cchemical approach\u201d \u2014 with a detailed guide on \u201cmelting the damn thing\u201d and using thermite, Stout writes, saying it has the \u201cfun bonus\u201d of producing a high-pitched squeal.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOne could imagine it sounding something like the sound a confederate general would make if their feet were on fire,\u201d Chris Harrison, a chemistry professor at San Diego State University, told the mag.<\/span><\/p>\n

The article quickly sparked outrage online \u2014 with many saying they\u2019d ended subscriptions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe liberals gradually destroyed it with way too much popular and way too little mechanics,\u201d one of those canceling, an Army veteran named Dillon, tweeted.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have finally gone insane \u2013 Popular Mechanics goes full on revolutionary,\u201d reader Jack Maxey tweeted, while another named Kodi wrote, \u201cPushing anarchy? You\u2019re done Popular Mechanics.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cPopular Mechanics goes full Taliban,\u201d Christina Sommers wrote, saying she always thought the magazine \u201cwas about building things\u201d not bringing them down.<\/span><\/p>\n

Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro, meanwhile, quipped, \u201cI look forward to Popular Mechanics putting together a primer on how to make a Molotov cocktail.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
