\n In California, it\u2019s Shark Week every week.<\/p>\n

Winter is coming and just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water \u2026 researchers say there are more great white sharks lurking off the coast of California than ever before.<\/p>\n

Chris Lowe, the director of the shark lab at California State University, Long Beach, has already tagged a record 38 sharks, trip<\/a>le the number that were tagged last year.<\/p>\n

\u201cNormally they\u2019d be leaving by now, but instead we are seeing more sharks than ever,\u201d Lowe told the Guardian.<\/a><\/p>\n

Lowe found that there are a record number of baby and juvenile sharks who stick around longer than usual \u2014 normally this time of year the sharks will migrate to Baja, California, but this year they haven\u2019t \u2014 likely due to climate change. \u201cWe may have white sharks here year-round,\u201d Lowe told the paper.<\/p>\n

In Monterey Bay, David Ebert, who directs the Pacific Shark Research Center at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, says he has also seen a similar rise in sharks off the coast.<\/p>\n

However, Ebert says this is no cause for concern.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are so many people in the water: you have paddleboards, kayaks, wetsuits, but the number of attacks hasn\u2019t really changed. That tells you that people are not on the menu, they\u2019re not out here hunting people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lowe agreed, telling the Guardian, \u201cThey are keeping the stingray population down, and they general<\/a>ly don\u2019t care about people.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
