{"id":107364,"date":"2020-11-07T20:30:11","date_gmt":"2020-11-07T17:30:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/why-trump-grew-his-numbers-with-black-and-latino-voters\/"},"modified":"2020-11-07T20:30:11","modified_gmt":"2020-11-07T17:30:11","slug":"why-trump-grew-his-numbers-with-black-and-latino-voters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/why-trump-grew-his-numbers-with-black-and-latino-voters\/","title":{"rendered":"#Why Trump grew his numbers with black and Latino voters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Why Trump grew his numbers with black and Latino voters<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n                        They <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2019\/01\/21\/politics\/hakeem-jeffries-grand-wizard-trump\/index.html\">called<\/a> Donald Trump \u201cthe grand wizard of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.\u201d They <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2017\/09\/25\/politics\/jeffries-trump-racial-arsonist-sheets-cnntv\/index.html\">said<\/a> Donald Trump is a \u201cracial arsonist.\u201d They even warned that if you support Donald Trump, you\u2019re a racist, too.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have been demonizing the president as a bigot since he descended <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/im-going-down-the-escalator-the-spectacle-in-trump-tower-that-launched-a-presidency\/2019\/06\/16\/20fec336-8e1d-11e9-adf3-f70f78c156e8_story.html\">his golden escalator<\/a> in 2015. Indeed, many say that no black or Latino American should ever support Trump and that if they do, they are self-hating sell-outs.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), for example, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolitics.com\/video\/2020\/11\/02\/maxine_waters_denounces_black_men_voting_for_trump_i_will_never_ever_forgive_them_it_is_shameful.html\">said recently<\/a>\u00a0that young black men who \u201cthink somehow they can align themselves with Trump\u201d are betraying their race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they help put Trump over, and help him get elected, they will go down in history as having done the most despicable thing to their families, and to their communities, and to their mothers and their grandmothers,\u201d Waters said. \u201cThey will shamefully be accused of having attributed to the lack of equality life for the people they claim to love so much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will never ever forgive them for undermining the possibility to help their own people and their own communities,\u201d she continued. \u201cIt is absolutely unconscionable. It is shameful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As a black conservative, I am disgusted by Waters\u2019 comments. I have been hearing charged language like this since I was a kid. It\u2019s intended to make black people, young and old, hate Republicans and attach themselves to the Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s easy to see how open-minded people who find conservatism attractive may refuse to say so, speak out, and join the conservative movement, afraid of the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> consequences. Policies like the First Step Act, opportunity zones and funding for historically black colleges and universities have paid off. As of this writing, exit polls conducted by Edison Research show President Trump won at least 18 percent of black men this year, up from 13 percent in 2016, and 8 percent of black women, doubling his percentage from four years ago.<\/p>\n<p>The president also increased his support among Latino Americans. According to Edison Research, he captured 36 percent of Latino men and 32 percent of Latino women. These votes helped Trump secure victories in Texas and Florida.<\/p>\n<p>Trump received historic levels of black support not seen since 1960, and record-breaking Latino support suggests people value policy over rhetoric.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf your starting point is that not a single Latino should vote for Trump, then, of course, you are going to need a more complex explanation for understanding why Trump would win 25 to 35 percent of the [Latino] vote\u201d nationally, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/latino\/trump-s-gains-among-latino-voters-shouldn-t-come-surprise-n1246463\">said Bernard Fraga<\/a>, an associate professor of political <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a> at Emory University.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans say that in Texas, Trump\u2019s message about the strong economy and record low unemployment \u2014 before the coronavirus pandemic \u2014 resonated with voters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Latinos understand Trump can be coarse sometimes and can be uncouth, but then they take a look at his policies that a lot of Latinos embrace \u2014 pro-growth, entrepreneurial \u2014 these are all policies Latinos can embrace,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/latino\/trump-s-gains-among-latino-voters-shouldn-t-come-surprise-n1246463\">said Daniel Garza<\/a>, president of The LIBRE Initiative, a Hispanic center-right organization.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16577172\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img class=\"size-nypost-large-desktop-uncropped wp-image-16577172 lazyload\" alt=\"A woman hoods a sign expressing Latino support for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump at his campaign rally at the Orange County Fair and Event Center, April 28, 2016, in Costa Mesa, California.\" width=\"662\" height=\"441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/11\/cc3-trump-rally2-2020.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=300 300w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/11\/cc3-trump-rally2-2020.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=640 640w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/11\/cc3-trump-rally2-2020.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1280 1280w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/11\/cc3-trump-rally2-2020.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=662 662w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/11\/cc3-trump-rally2-2020.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=1324 1324w\" data-sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 662px\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span>Strong showings among Latino voters helped Trump secure victories in Texas and Florida.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">AFP via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The black community and the Latino community may prioritize certain issues differently, but more often than not, those issues haven\u2019t been addressed properly \u2014 if at all \u2014 by the Democratic Party.<\/p>\n<p>Kimberly Klacik, a black woman who ran for Congress in Baltimore and released a viral ad that received more shares on social media than Michelle Obama\u2019s DNC speech, said on my podcast, \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/outloud-with-gianno-caldwell\/id1531322797\">Outloud with Gianno Caldwell<\/a>,\u201d that it wasn\u2019t the GOP who helped her in her congressional race. It was Donald Trump, who helped her fund raise and gave her national attention. If it weren\u2019t for him, she wouldn\u2019t have raised $6.5\u2009million in the third quarter.<\/p>\n<p>No matter who wins this presidential election, Republicans need to take a page out of Donald Trump\u2019s handbook and woo more minority voters.
