“#Joe Biden vows to be president for all in victory speech<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n President-elect Joe Biden delivered a resounding victory speech on Saturday evening, in which he vowed to heal a fractured nation reeling from racial unrest, a deadly pandemic and historically deep political divides.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people of this nation have spoken. They delivered us a clear victory \u2014 a convincing victory, a victory for the people,\u201d Biden said after jogging up to the stage at the Chase Center parking lot in his hometown of Wilmington, Del.<\/p>\n

More than a thousand jubilant supporters had flocked to the drive-in rally, sitting on the roofs of their cars as they waved American flags and Biden campaign signs.<\/p>\n

The incoming president vowed to be a leader for all Americans, and extended a hand to those who voted for his opponent.<\/p>\n

\u201cI pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide but to unify,\u201d Biden said to cheers.<\/p>\n

Speaking directly to Trump supporters, Biden said, \u201cFor all those of you who voted for President Trump, I understand the disapp<\/a>ointment tonight. I\u2019ve lost a couple times myself. But now, let\u2019s give each other a chance.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s time to put away the harsh rhetoric, lower the temperature, see each other again, listen to each other again,\u201d Biden said, adding of political opponents, \u201cThey are not our enemies. They are Americans.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet this grim era of demonization in America begin to end here and now,\u201d he said. \u201cWe must restore the soul of America.\u201d<\/p>\n

Biden vowed to immedia<\/a>tely begin working on getting the coronavirus pandemic under control, adding that the nation \u201ccannot repair the economy, restore our economy or relish life\u2019s most precious moments\u201d without doing so.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a proud Democrat, but I will govern as an American,\u201d Biden pledged. \u201cI will work as hard for those who didn\u2019t vote for me, as those who did.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also expressed surprise at the exuberant celebrations and \u201coutpouring of joy\u201d that broke out nationwide in the wake of his win.<\/p>\n

Biden closed out his speech by citing the Catholic hymn \u201cOn Eagles\u2019 Wings,\u201d saying it was a favorite of his son Beau Biden, who died in 2015 at 46 after a battle with cancer.<\/p>\n

One of the songs that played during the rally, \u201cSky Full of Stars\u201d was by one of Beau\u2019s favorite bands, Coldplay.<\/p>\n

The president-elect and his vice-president elect Kamala Harris were joined onstage by their families following the speeches, as confetti fell and fireworks exploded.<\/p>\n

Biden was spotted kissing his grandchildren and hugging his kids, including Hunter Biden.<\/p>\n

The high-tech fireworks show included drones flying overheard that spelled out \u201cBIDEN\u201d and made the shape of the US.<\/p>\n

The 77-year-old\u2019s victory, called after he won the state of Pennsylvania on Saturday morning, followed a nail-biting, days-long vote count and has been plunged into further uncertainty as the current commander-in-chief refuses to concede, citing widespread, yet unproven, \u201cfraud.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sen. Kamala Harris, who makes history as the first woman, black person and Asian-American to be elected vice president, acknowledged her groundbreaking position from the stage.<\/p>\n

Wearing a suffragette-white pantsuit, Harris noted that her ascension to the position came 100 years after the 19th Amendment was ratified and 55 years after the signing of the Voting Rights Act.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery little girl watching tonight sees that this is a county of possibilities,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The incoming veep also delivered a message of hope and unity as she introduced her running mate, saying he would be a leader \u201cfor all people.\u201d<\/p>\n

She praised Biden for having \u201cthe audacity to break one of the most substantial barriers that exist in our country\u201d by selecting a woman as his running mate.<\/p>\n

Harris, 56, also extended her gratitude to voters who turned out in record numbers, saying that in choosing Biden, they \u201cchose hope and decency.\u201d<\/p>\n

Biden and Harris campaigned on a promise to restore decency to the White House and aggressively fight the surging coronavirus pandemic which has killed 237,000 Americans and infected another 9.89 million people.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am honored and humbled by the trust the American people have placed in me and in vice president-elect Harris,\u201d Biden said in a statement earlier Saturday, following his projected victory.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the face of unprecedented obstacles, a record number of Americans voted. Proving once again, that democracy beats deep in the heart of America.\u201d<\/p>\n

President Trump platformed on economic growth and vows to \u201cMake America great again, again\u201d but it wasn\u2019t enough to hold onto the trio of Rust Belt states which had vaulted him to the White House in 2016, even if a \u201cblue wave\u201d never arrived.<\/p>\n

The commander-in-chief spent the first day of his lame duck presidency tweeting and golfing and was photographed looking stone-faced as he arrived back at the White House after learning of his loss.<\/p>\n

As congratulations poured in from leaders around the world, Trump vowed the race was \u201cfar from over\u201d and his campaign is preparing to mount an exhaustive legal fight to challenge the vote in swing states where Trump lost by razor-thin margins.<\/p>\n
