“#White megachurch pastor apologizes for calling slavery a \u2018blessing\u2019<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n A white Atlanta megachurch pastor has apologized for suggesting slavery was a \u201cblessing\u201d during a roundtable discussion about race, according to a report.<\/p>\n

Passion City Church pastor Louie Giglio said that white people missed the \u201cblessing that was slavery\u201d during a conversation Sunday with Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy and hip-hop artist Lecrae, WSB-TV reported.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe understand the curse that was slavery, white people do,\u201d Giglio said. \u201cAnd we say that was bad, but we miss the blessing of slavery, that it actually built up the framework for the world that white people live in and lived in.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that he prefers the term \u201cwhite blessing\u201d instead of the term white privilege.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m living in the blessing of the curse that happ<\/a>ened generationally that allowed me to grow up in Atlanta,\u201d the pastor said.<\/p>\n

But Giglio now has clarified from his remarks in a video apology, saying he was trying to help others understand white privilege.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t, to be clear, believe there is any blessing in slavery,\u201d he said in a video posted to Twitter<\/a>. \u201cTo the contrary, what I\u2019m trying to understand and help people see is that I, my white brothers and sisters, we sit in large part where we are today because of the centuries of gross injustice done to our black brothers and sisters.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also said the phrase \u201cwhite blessing\u201d was a \u201chorrible choice of words.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI ask that you pray for me and possibly even join me as I just desire to continue to learn, to understand, to stay engaged and be a part of us moving forward to the place God wants us to be,\u201d Giglio said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
