“#Cuomo emerges as stumbling block to Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine rollout<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n News<\/a> of a Pfizer breakthrough on a vaccine to fight the coronavirus came as welcome news to many today but New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo still expressed concern about it being rolled out under the Trump administration.<\/p>\n

Cuomo blasted Trump\u2019s vaccine plan Monday morning as \u201cflawed\u201d and went so far as to declare: \u201cWe can\u2019t let this vaccination plan go forward the way that Trump and his administration is designing it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Democratic governor \u2014 who has a bitter relationship with Trump \u2014 made the comments on \u201cGood Morning America\u201d Monday, moments after he acknowledged that tests on Pfizer\u2019s experimental COVID-19 vaccine \u201clook good\u201d and he believes a vaccine will be \u201cavailable shortly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Calling the promising breakthrough \u201cbad news,\u201d Cuomo said the vaccine rollout plan needed to be stopped until his old friend, President-elect Joe Biden takes office in January, otherwise it will cause \u201cdamage.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe bad news is that it\u2019s about two months before Joe Biden takes over, and this means [the Trump] administration is going to be implementing a vaccine plan,\u201d Cuomo said.<\/p>\n

That plan, he said, is \u201cflawed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe it learns nothing from the past,\u201d Cuomo charged. \u201cThey\u2019re basically going to have the private providers do it, and that\u2019s going to leave out all sorts of communities that were left out the first time when COVID ravaged them.<\/p>\n

The governor threatened to slow-roll the desperately-needed vaccine in the hard-hit Empire State in September, citing his distrust of the president and claiming the process was \u201cpoliticized.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump unloaded on Cuomo, calling him a \u201clowlife,\u201d and said the vaccine had been developed by the \u201cfinest labs in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

The braggadocios Big App<\/a>le-born lawmakers share a mutual loathing and repeatedly traded blows at their daily press conferences during the pandemic, with Cuomo even suggesting the president would need \u201can army\u201d to protect him if he wanted to walk on the streets of New York.<\/p>\n

While Pfizer has signed on to Operation Ward Speed, the Trump administration\u2019s plan to fast track delivery of a COVID-19 vaccine, the company did not take any money from the federal money to help pay for research and development.<\/p>\n

Warp Speed has promised to purchase $2 billion worth of vaccines from Pfizer when they are ready.<\/p>\n

Cuomo said the Trump administration\u2019s vaccine will be distributed through the \u201cprivate mechanism\u201d \u2014 including hospitals and drug market chains, excluding poorer communities.<\/p>\n

Communities in \u201chealthcare deserts\u201d \u2014 without any of those facilities nearby \u2014 will be in trouble, as was the case when the virus began to sweep the nation, Cuomo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have two months, and you can\u2019t let this vaccination go forward the way the Trump administration is designing it \u2014 because Biden can\u2019t undo it two months later,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll be in the midst of it. And I\u2019ve been talking to governors across the nation about that. How can we shape the Trump administration vaccine plan to fix it or stop it before it does damage.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that the Biden administration would \u201cdepoliticize testing data\u201d and \u201clisten to the science<\/a>, [which] is the exact opposite of Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cuomo has previously said that he wants his own team of in-house experts to review a federally approved COVID-19 vaccine before distributing the drug to millions of New Yorkers, arguing that he doesn\u2019t think the FDA and CDC\u2019s recommendations are \u201csafe.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
