Mike Banning is about to be called upon to save the world\u2026again.<\/p>\n

Gerard Butler<\/strong> has signed on to reprise his role in Night Has Fallen<\/strong><\/em>, the upcoming fourth entry in the successful Has Fallen<\/em> action film franchise. Ric Roman Waugh<\/strong>, who directed last year\u2019s Angel Has Fallen<\/em>, will be back in the director\u2019s chair for this sequel.
<\/span><\/p>\n

The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> says Butler is back to star in Night Has Fallen<\/em>, which, unfortunately, does not have any plot details listed yet. But we know it will star Butler\u2019s Mike Banning, the former Army Ranger-turned-Secret-Service-agent who has protected multiple fictional presidents and prevented wars on a massive scale. Angel Has Fallen<\/em> ended with Banning becoming the Director of the Secret Service and reconciling with his father, played by Nick Nolte<\/strong>, so expect Nolte to app<\/a>ear in this one. And don\u2019t forget about franchise mainstay Morgan Freeman<\/strong> \u2013 he\u2019ll likely be back, too.
\nMillennium Media<\/a> is introducing the movie at this year\u2019s virtual American Film Market in an attempt to find a distributor. FilmDistrict distributed the first movie, Focus Features handled the second, and Lionsgate took the third.<\/p>\n

Personally, when it came to 2013\u2019s\u00a0inexplicable duel of two \u201cDie Hard<\/em> in the White House\u201d concepts, I preferred Olympus Has Fallen<\/em> to White House Down<\/em>. I was sort of bowled over by the almost gleeful level of violence on display \u2013 Butler stabbing a guy in the head with a giant knife was a particularly memorable moment that has stayed with me and makes me sort of chuckle in disbelief when I think about it. Since then, this franchise has just leaned further into over-the-top depictions of geopolitics and acts of terror, ramping up the ridiculousness and ruffling some feathers in the process.<\/p>\n

Waugh, a former stunt performer on films like Road House<\/i>, Total Recall<\/i>, Universal Soldier<\/i>, Gone in 60 Seconds<\/i>, and more, made the proper transition to directing with 2001\u2019s In the Shadows<\/i>. Since then, he\u2019s directed films like Felon<\/i>, Snitch<\/i>, Shot Caller<\/i>, and the Gerard Butler disaster movie Greenland<\/i>, which skipped theaters and landed on VOD last month. He directed Angel Has Fallen<\/em>, which was better liked than London Has Fallen<\/em> but still not as appreciated as Olympus Has Fallen<\/em>. Perhaps Night Has Fallen<\/em> will restore the franchise to its former glory, or maybe even overtake it. <\/span><\/p>\n

Screenwriter Robert Mark Kamen<\/strong>, who worked on Angel Has Fallen<\/em> and previously wrote films like The Karate Kid<\/em>, The Fifth Element<\/em>, The Transporter<\/em>, and Taken<\/em>, is back to write the screenplay for this sequel. And this probably won\u2019t be the last we see of Butler\u2019s Mike Banning: there are two more movies<\/a> envisioned in the grand plan, along with potential spin-offs and TV shows to boot.<\/span><\/p>\n
