Greg Berlanti\u2019s CW superhero show universe, otherwise known as the \u201cArrowverse,\u201d is known for being proud and progressive with its depiction of comic book heroes. The Arrowverse has the first lesbian superhero show, diverse casts, several female-led TV shows. But the CW\u2019s upcoming\u00a0Superman & Lois<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0may be facing issues related to sexism and racism, according to a recently fired writer for the series<\/a>.<\/p>\n

TV writer\u00a0Nadria Tucker<\/strong>, whose previous credits include\u00a0Underground<\/em> and a story editor position on Syfy\u2019s Krypton<\/em>, claimed that he has been let go from the writer\u2019s room of the CW\u2019s\u00a0Superman & Lois<\/em> for calling out issues of racism and sexism within the script<\/a>s.
\nIn a series of tweets, the writer said, \u201cSome personal news<\/a>: Wednesday I got word that my contract on Superman and Lois won\u2019t be extended, my services no longer needed, my outline and draft subpar (obviously I disagree with that last bit lol). This, after months of me flagging #metoo jokes in dialogue, of me defending the Bechdel test, of me FIGHTING to ensure the only Black faces on screen aren\u2019t villains, of me pitching stories for female characters (there\u2019s one in the title of the series!) that went ignored.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tucker added, \u201cIf I sound bitter, it\u2019s because this one stings. I\u2019ve been assured by colleagues that I was great in the room, so I know I\u2019m not nuts. I debated whether to post this but my own mental wellbeing demands that I do. The only way shit changes is to expose it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nNo comment has been made yet on Tucker\u2019s allegations by the CW, nor by\u00a0CW superhero maestro Greg Berlanti, who developed\u00a0Superman & Lois<\/em> alongside\u00a0The Flash<\/em>\u2018s\u00a0Todd Helbing, who serves as executive producer and showrunner on the show. But Tucker\u2019s claims don\u2019t bode well for the series, which features one of DC Comics\u2019 most famous female characters \u2014 and one known for being an avowed feminist \u2014 in its title, Lois Lane. But this wouldn\u2019t be the Arrowverse\u2019s first brush with controversy: in 2017, prominent Arrowverse writer-producer\u00a0Andrew Kreisberg, who served as executive producer on both\u00a0The Flash<\/em> and\u00a0Supergirl<\/em>,\u00a0was fired following allegations of sexual harassment.\u00a0The Flash<\/em> actor Hartley Sawyer was also fired after racist, misogynist tweets resurfaced.<\/p>\n

Superman & Lois\u00a0<\/em>is currently scheduled for a February 2021 debut and is set to star Tyler Hoechlin<\/strong> and Bitsie Tulloch<\/strong> as Clark Kent and Lois Lane, respectively, reprising the roles they debuted in\u00a0Supergirl<\/em> as the two of them navigate the double lives of raising kids and being superheroes both in journalism and in city-wide battles.<\/p>\n
