\n The coronavirus pandemic has officially defined 2020.<\/p>\n

UK-based Collins Dictionary has announced \u201clockdown\u201d as its word of the year, with other pandemic related words close behind.<\/p>\n

Defined as \u201cthe imposition of stringent restrictions on travel<\/a>, social<\/a> interaction, and access to public spaces,\u201d the noun was one of six words in the dictionary\u2019s top-ten of 2020 that related to the deadly bug.<\/p>\n

Coronavirus was of course on the list, registering a staggering 35,000-fold increase in use over the previous year.<\/p>\n

Other related words include: social distancing, self-isolation, key workers and furlough.<\/p>\n

Last year, Collins, which tracks a 4.5 billion word corpus, chose \u201cclimate strike\u201d as the word of year.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
