\n Two New York City Council leaders are calling on the NYPD and other agencies to investigate police unions for falsely claiming that Shake Shack workers intentionally poisoned officers by spiking their milkshakes with bleach.<\/p>\n

Three NYPD cops were hospitalized Monday night after drinking milkshakes from a Lower Manhattan Shake Shack. The department investigated and found no criminality. Instead, police sources said it app<\/a>eared that whatever cleaning solution was used on the shake machine wasn\u2019t rinsed off enough.<\/p>\n

Before that determination, Police Benevolent Association Patrick Lynch said in a warning letter to officers that a \u201ctoxic substance, believed to be bleach, had been placed in their beverages.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen New York City police officers cannot even take meal without coming under attack, it is clear that environment in which we work has deteriorated to a critical level. We cannot afford to let our guard down for even a moment,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

And Detectives Endowment Association President Paul DiGiacomo tweeted Monday: \u201cTonight, three of our brothers in blue were intentionally poisoned by one or more workers at the Shake Shack.\u201d The tweet was later deleted and the union issued a statement correcting the allegation.<\/p>\n

Council Speaker Corey Johnson (D-Manhattan) and Councilman Ritchie Torres (D-Bronx), chair of the oversight committee, want the NYPD, Department of Investigation and the Civilian Complaint Review Board to determine whether the PBA and the DEA broke city laws including rules prohibiting the release of confidential information and making false statements.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese inflammatory actions not only further damage the relationship between police and the public, they violate city rules,\u201d said Johnson.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wouldn\u2019t tolerate this kind of behavior from any other city employees and we should not tolerate it from police union leaders. We need to hold them accountable,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n

Johnson and Torres also want the agencies to probe the Sergeants Benevolent Association for calling Health Commissioner Oxiris Barbot \u201ca b\u2014h\u201d on Twitter<\/a> after The Post exclusively reported that she told\u00a0an NYPD official she didn\u2019t give \u201ctwo rats\u2019 asses\u201d about cops getting safety masks.<\/p>\n

A spokeswoman for the NYPD said the department would review the request by the councilmen.<\/p>\n

SBA President Ed Mullins said, \u201cI guess they are up for reelection and looking to keep the anti-police vote.\u201d <\/p>\n

The DEA\u2019s Paul DiGiacomo said, \u201cNo false information was ever put out. It was information that was obtained and was put out to my members for their safety.\u201d <\/p>\n

PBA President Pat Lynch did not return a message.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
