redefining a multibillion-dollar business.<\/p>\n<p> Last month, the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> empire<br \/>\n        DIS,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203410047\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.33%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       made a hard pivot toward its direct-to-consumer business while trying to reopen its <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">theme<\/a> parks in California.  A strategic reorganization of Disney\u2019s media and entertainment businesses to focus on streaming was underway but accelerated because of the pandemic, Chief Executive Bob Chapek said at the time.<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       <strong>Read more:  Disney reorganizes media, entertainment businesses to focus on streaming <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Streaming service Disney+, which has attracted more than 60 million subscribers since its November 2019 launch, has adopted a more aggressive approach to taking content direct to streaming amid the COVID-19 pandemic. <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Movies<\/a> such as \u201cMulan\u201d and \u201cHamilton\u201d debuted on the service instead of in theaters in the U.S., and last week, Disney said Pixar\u2019s next animated film,\u00a0\u201cSoul,\u201d will premiere on Disney+ on Dec. 25. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe view the reorganization as further strengthening Disney\u2019s ability to control its distribution by making [direct-to-consumer] streaming the primary mechanism for monetization (rather than cable network distribution) across all businesses,\u201d Guggenheim analyst Michael Morris said in an Oct. 12 note. He maintained a buy rating on Disney shares with a price target of $140.<\/p>\n<p>To be blunt, Disney has little choice. It faces competition from media giants Apple Inc.<br \/>\n        AAPL,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202934861\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.30%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       Netflix Inc.<br \/>\n        NFLX,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202353025\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+2.07%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       Comcast Corp.<br \/>\n        CMCSA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/209472081\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.25%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       AT&amp;T Inc.<br \/>\n        T,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203165245\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.94%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       Amazon.com Inc.<br \/>\n        AMZN,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210331248\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-3.45%<\/bg-quote><span>,<\/span><br \/>\n       and more. In late October, Netflix  said its standard plan, which allows two streams at HD quality, will increase from $12.99 a month to $13.99 a month. Its premium plan, which allows up to four concurrent streams with more high-definition offerings, will jump from $15.99 to $17.99. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more:  Netflix increases prices in U.S. after wave of pandemic subscription additions, stock jumps <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Disney is putting its eggs in the digital basket as the company awaits a green light from health officials for Disneyland and Disney California Adventure to reopen in Southern California. The company announced 28,000 layoffs from its Parks, Experiences and Products segment in late September because of protracted theme-park closures caused by the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, a record surge in COVID-19 cases nationwide is suppressing average daily attendance at Disney World, according to a Deutsche Bank Research note Nov. 5. \u201cWe believe the continued march higher in average daily cases in both the U.S. and Florida is negatively impacting park attendance,\u201d analyst Bryan Kraft said, noting a 15% dip from the previous week.<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>Last week, Disney-owned ESPN said it is slashing 300 jobs, or about 6% of its workforce, as cost pressures from the pandemic hasten the sports media company\u2019s move into streaming.<\/p>\n<p>Still, all isn\u2019t rosy for Disney+ as it approaches its first anniversary. A key element to the service\u2019s success \u2014 Verizon Communications Inc.<br \/>\n        VZ,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/204980236\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+2.10%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       customers who received a free year of the streaming service as a promotion \u2014 must now start paying or cancel. This, in turn, has prompted angst among Disney officials that a large percentage of Verizon users will cancel, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theinformation.com\/articles\/disney-streaming-faces-moment-of-truth-as-verizon-promotion-expires\" class=\"icon none\">a report in The Information<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_to_expect\"><\/span>What to expect<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p><strong>Earnings:<\/strong> Analysts on average expect Disney to report a loss of 73 cents a share, down from net income of $1.07 a share a year ago. Analysts have lowered their outlook for the quarter since the last earnings report, as theme parks in California remain shuttered and live-action productions remain in limbo because of the pandemic; analysts were projecting a loss of 17 cents a share at the end of June. <\/p>\n<p>Contributors to Estimize \u2014 a crowdsourcing platform that gathers estimates from Wall Street analysts as well as buy-side analysts, fund managers, company executives, academics and others \u2014 project a loss of 59 cents a share on average.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Revenue:<\/strong> Analysts on average expect Disney to report $14.15 billion in fourth-quarter revenue,  down from $19.1 billion in the same quarter a year ago.
