David Fincher<\/strong> has had a pretty good relationship with Netflix. He served as executive producer on the Netflix shows\u00a0Mindhunter <\/em><\/strong>and\u00a0House of Cards<\/em><\/strong>, and when\u00a0Mindhunter<\/em> went on indefinite hold, the streaming service gave him the chance to make one of his dream projects,\u00a0Mank<\/em><\/strong>. Now, Fincher says he\u2019s signed a four-year exclusive deal with Netflix, which means any Fincher projects in the foreseeable future will be housed there.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0Premiere, via The Playlist<\/a>, David Fincher has signed a 4-year deal with Netflix, making the streaming giant his new home for a little while. \u201cYes, I have an exclusivity deal with [Netflix] for another four years,\u201d Fincher said. \u201cAnd depending on Mank<\/em>\u2019s reception, I\u2019ll either go see them sheepishly asking them what I can do to redeem myself or take the attitude of the arrogant asshole who\u2019ll require making other films in black and white. [Laughs] No, I\u2019m here to deliver them \u2018content\u2019 \u2014 whatever it means\u2014 likely to bring them spectators, in my small sphere of influence.\u201d
\nThe Playlist adds that the deal was made before\u00a0Mank<\/em>, and that it\u2019s a \u201cmajor\u2026deal worth over nine-figures.\u201d In the interview, Fincher added: \u201cNow [because] I signed this Netflix deal it\u2019s also because I\u2019d like to work like Picasso painted, to try very different things, to try to break the shape or change the operating mode. I like the idea of having a body of work. And yes, I admit that it feels strange, after forty years in this profession, to only have ten films under my belt. Well, eleven, but ten that I can say are mine. Yes, objectively, it is a pretty terrifying observation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now we just have to wait and see what Fincher does next. This deal doesn\u2019t mean he\u2019s going to be directing movies<\/a> for Netflix for the next four years \u2013 he could likely just serve as an executive producer on projects, including TV shows. But it does mean that anything Fincher has cooking will be at Netflix, and seeing as movie theaters are in trouble right now, that\u2019s sensible. Hopefully, there won\u2019t be a long gap between directorial efforts, though \u2013\u00a0Mank<\/em> is Fincher\u2019s first feature film in six years, since 2014\u2019s\u00a0Gone Girl<\/em>.<\/p>\n

And hey, if we\u2019re lucky, this could mean there\u2019s hope again for\u00a0Mindhunter<\/em> season 3. While the Fincher-produced show hasn\u2019t exactly been canceled it is on hold, with the cast released from their contracts. \u201cListen, for the viewership that it had, it was a very expensive show,\u201d Fincher said in an interview back in October. \u201cWe talked about, \u2018Finish\u00a0Mank<\/em>\u00a0and then see how you feel,\u2019 but I honestly don\u2019t think we\u2019re going to be able to do it for less than I did season two. And on some level, you have to be realistic \u2014 dollars have to equal eyeballs.\u201d<\/p>\n
