Kevin Parker — whose volcanic eruptions include attacking a Post photographer, punching a traffic agent and telling a GOP spokeswoman to “kill yourself” — announced on NY1 Wednesday night he’s putting up his fists to become the city’s chief fiscal watchdog.

Parkers joins other Democratic candidates making a bid to succeed Scott Stringer to become the city’s watchdog: Brooklyn Councilman Brad Lander, Manhattan state Sen. Brian Benjamin and Queens Assemblyman David Weprin.

“We need people who have leadership and who can bring practical solutions to the table to get us out of this pandemic,” Parker said on NY1’s Inside City Hall.

“And so, as we look at the issues around housing, economic opportunity, police reform, how we in fact engage our young people, how do we in fact protect our seniors from third-party transfers and give them the kind of health care they deserve, I think my background and my experience…will bring both the leadership as well as the vision that we’re going to need going forward.”

But Parker, who has served in the senate for 17 years representing Flatbush, Midwood, Park Slope, Kensington, Ditmas Park and Windsor Terrace, will have to address his rap sheet and trail of angry and violent outbursts if he wants to analyze spreadsheets worth billions of dollars.

Parker was sentenced in 2011 to three years’ probation for roughing up Post photographer William Lopez during a 2009 dustup.

The senator was convicted of two counts of criminal mischief for smashing Lopez’s camera and damaging the lensman’s car, and was also ordered to attend anger-management classes, pay a $1,000 fine and make restitution to The Post for the equipment broken.

In 2005, Parker was arrested for allegedly slugging a traffic agent. The charges were dropped in return for Parker promising to attend anger-management classes.

In 2018, Parker told a state Senate GOP spokeswoman via Twitter to “Kill yourself!” after she called him out for his questionable use of a governmental parking placard. He admitted he has to work out his rage problems and even said he’d take up First Lady Chirlane McCray’s advice and sign up for her Thrive NYC mental-health education courses.

Parker did not return a request for comment Wednesday.

In Albany and New York City political circles, Parker is known for his Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde personality and sporting dapper attire.

“Kevin has an engaging, charismatic personality. He can be funny. But he can also be a bully,” said one Albany insider.

“Parker for comptroller?! Really?!,” the stunned state official said.

Parker currently chairs the Senate’s Committee on Energy and Telecommunications.

His prior stints include serving as intergovernmental aide to former State Comptroller H. Carl McCall and a project manager for the state Urban Development Corporation. He also worked on municipal finance in the chairman’s office at UBS PaineWebber and served as a staffer for the Manhattan borough president and two legislators.

The primaries will be held in June 2021.

For forums sites go to Forum.BuradaBiliyorum.Com

If you want to read more News articles, you can visit our News category.

Source

“#Brooklyn Sen.
