\n Australia is facing \u201csophisticated\u201d and \u201cmalicious\u201d cyberattacks from a foreign government, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said Thursday.<\/p>\n

The ongoing attacks are targeting all levels of the Australian government, as well as \u201cpolitical organizations, education, health, essential service providers and operators of other critical infrastructure,\u201d Morrison said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know it is a sophisticated state-based cyber actor because of the scale and nature of the targeting,\u201d Morrison said, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.<\/p>\n

He said the frequency of the attacks had increased \u201cover many months.\u201d<\/p>\n

So far, there have not been any \u201clarge-scale\u201d breaches of people\u2019s personal information, Morrison said \u2014 adding that he was announcing the attacks on Thursday \u201cto raise awareness of this important issue.\u201d<\/p>\n

And \u201cto encourage organizations, particularly those in the health, critical infrastructure and essential services to take expert advice and implement technical defenses to thwart this malicious cyber activity,\u201d Morrison added.<\/p>\n

Asked whether the country responsible had been identified, Morrison said his government would not be making \u201cany public attribution\u201d about the attacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I can confirm is there are not a large number of state-based actors that can engage in this type of activity,\u201d he added.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
