We often message links to new music we discover with friends. But sharing links is cumbersome, and if the recipient doesn\u2019t open it immediately, the text can easily get lost in the shuffle. Fortunately, if you\u2019re a YouTube Music subscriber, there are collaborative playlists.<\/p>\n

On YouTube Music, you have the ability to collaborate on a playlist and allow other users to add tracks to it\u2014similar to how you can edit a Google Doc together. To get started, make sure you have the latest version of YouTube Music installed on your iPhone<\/a>, iPad<\/a>, or Android device<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Open YouTube Music and visit the \u201cLibrary\u201d tab by tapp<\/a>ing the button in the bottom-right corner.<\/p>\n

\"Visit<\/p>\n

Select \u201cPlaylists\u201d and create a new playlist with the \u201cNew Playlist\u201d option.<\/p>\n

\"Create<\/p>\n

Enter a title and set the playlist\u2019s \u201cPrivacy\u201d setting to either \u201cPublic\u201d or \u201cUnlisted.\u201d Picking \u201cPublic\u201d means anyone can look it up and access it on YouTube Music. \u201cUnlisted\u201d restricts its visibility to only the people who have a direct link. Hit \u201cCreate\u201d to save your new playlist.<\/p>\n

In the updated list, tap the three-dot menu icon to the right of the new playlist and then select \u201cEdit Playlist.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tap the \u201cCollaborate\u201d option.<\/p>\n

\"Collaborate<\/p>\n

On the following screen, enable the \u201cCollaborators can add songs and videos\u201d toggle.<\/p>\n

\"Add<\/p>\n

Under that toggle, a new link should be now available. To invite someone as a collaborator, share this URL with them.<\/p>\n

\"Invite<\/p>\n

When they open the link, they will automatically become a member and will have the permission to add songs to it like any other normal playlist.<\/p>\n

You can add collaborators to your existing playlists too from each item\u2019s three-dot menu icon > Edit Playlist menu. By default, all your playlists are private. You will have to edit its Privacy dropdown, which is located beside the \u201cCollaborate\u201d button.<\/p>\n

These settings are available on YouTube Music\u2019s website,<\/a> too. The steps largely remain identical. There, visit the \u201cLibrary\u201d section, click a playlist\u2019s three-dot menu button, then select \u201cEdit Playlist.\u201d<\/p>\n

Under the \u201cCollaborate\u201d tab, switch on the \u201cCollaborators can add songs and videos to this playlist\u201d toggle. Hit \u201cDone\u201d to save the changes.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re not a YouTube Music subscriber, collaborative playlists are also available on Spotify.<\/p>\n
