The iconic \u201cBlack Sheep\u201d sweater \u2014 a red, crewneck pullover spotted with fluffy white lambs and one standout black one \u2014 is available for preorder<\/a> from Soho-based shop Rowing Blazers, for the first time since 1994. The $295 piece\u2019s claim to fame? It\u2019s the statement knit that Princess Diana made famous in the early \u201980s, chicly sporting it at two high-profile polo matches alongside her then-husband, Prince Charles.<\/p>\n

The sweater\u2019s designers, Sally Muir and Joanna Osborne, told The Post via email that they had no idea the stylish royal was a fan of their label, Warm & Wonderful<\/a>, when she first was spotted wearing it out in public. The brand launched in 1979, and the duo started off selling their knitwear in a market stall in Covent Garden. \u201cWe were a very small business then .\u2009.\u2009. we were delighted when we saw it in the paper, total surprise.\u201d<\/p>\n

Muir and Osborne said the secret to Lady Di\u2019s enduring app<\/a>eal as a trendsetter is that \u201cshe was the first member of the royal family to understand the power of clothes. She introduced us to chic streetwear.\u201d Now, with Diana\u2019s debut on the forthcoming Season 4 of \u201cThe Crown,\u201d as well as a film and musical in the works about her life, they believe it\u2019s the right moment to reissue the garment. \u201cDiana is very much in the air,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n

Rowing Blazers recently released another unisex sweater originally worn by the princess, a $295 collaboration with British brand Gyles & George. It\u2019s pale coral and announces \u201cI\u2019m a luxury\u201d on the front, wrapping in back to finish the sentence: \u201cFew can afford.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Muir and Osborne, the ideal \u201cBlack Sheep\u201d wearer is someone who captures Diana\u2019s generous spirit. \u201cDiana had a great social<\/a> conscience<\/a>,\u201d they said. \u201cIt would be nice \u2014 if somewhat unlikely \u2014 to see someone like Greta Thunberg, Malala or Michelle Obama in a Sheep jumper, that would really be a thrill.\u201d<\/p>\n
