Chris Pratt<\/strong>, the internet\u2019s current least favorite Chris, is joining the much more beloved Chris Hemsworth<\/strong> in\u00a0Thor: Love and Thunder<\/em><\/strong>. Pratt\u2019s Star-Lord\/Peter Quill will app<\/a>ear in the Taika Waititi<\/strong> sequel, which makes sense since\u00a0Avengers: Endgame<\/a><\/em> concluded with Thor jetting off with the Guardians of the Galaxy. That said,\u00a0Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3<\/em>\u00a0doesn\u2019t have an official release date yet, so it\u2019s not exactly clear how all of this lines up on the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline.<\/p>\n

The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> has revealed that Chris Pratt has joined the\u00a0Thor: Love and Thunder<\/em> cast, reprising his\u00a0Guardians of the Galaxy<\/em> role of Peter Quill\/Star-Lord. Pratt joins returning players Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tessa Thompson<\/strong> as\u00a0Valkyrie, and Natalie Portman<\/strong> as Jane Foster, as well as Marvel newcomer Christian Bale<\/strong>, who is reportedly playing the film\u2019s villain (although we don\u2019t know which villain he\u2019s playing just yet).
\nHaving Star-Lord in a\u00a0Thor<\/em> sequel makes sense since\u00a0Avengers: Endgame<\/em> had Thor palling around with the\u00a0Guardians of the Galaxy<\/em>, and even ended with the character joining the Guardians as they set out in search of Gamora. However, the timeline here is a little fuzzy. There\u2019s no official date locked for\u00a0Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3<\/em>, but\u00a0Thor: Love and Thunder\u00a0<\/em>is set to open on February 11, 2022<\/strong>. So how does all of this lineup, timeline-wise? I don\u2019t know yet, but we\u2019ll be seeing\u00a0Thor: Love and Thunder<\/em>\u00a0before\u00a0Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3<\/em>.\u00a0Guardians<\/em> director James Gunn is working on his\u00a0Suicide Squad<\/em> spin-off TV series<\/a>\u00a0Peacemaker<\/em>, so he might not get started on\u00a0Guardians<\/em> for a while.<\/p>\n

And as of now, Marvel has locked down the following release dates for unannounced films:\u00a0October 7, 2022, February 17, 2023, May 5, 2023, July 28, 2023, and November 3, 2023. If\u00a0Love and Thunder<\/em> holds its February 2022 date,\u00a0Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3<\/em> will arrive in October of that year at the earliest. Anyway, this is all speculation, and we don\u2019t even know how big Pratt\u2019s role is going to be in\u00a0Love and Thunder<\/em>. It might just be a cameo \u2013 it certainly wouldn\u2019t be the first time one MCU character popped up in another MCU character\u2019s movie.<\/p>\n

Thor: Love and Thunder<\/em> will be helmed by\u00a0Thor: Ragnarok<\/em> director Taika Waititi, and will see Natalie Portman\u2019s Jane Foster becoming the Mighty Thor while Valkyrie, the new ruler of Asgard, searches for her queen. Not much more is known beyond that, but Waititi worked on the script with\u00a0Jennifer Kaytin Robinson<\/strong>, writer of this year\u2019s\u00a0Unpregnant<\/em>.<\/p>\n
