Her father, Bruce Lee, the actor and martial-arts legend, died from cerebral edema in 1973, just before the release of his breakout film \u201cEnter the Dragon.\u201d A coroner in Hong Kong deemed the cause \u201cdeath by misadventure.\u201d Though she was just<br \/>4 years old at the time, Shannon remembers being \u201cout of my body\u201d at the mob scene of a \u00adfuneral.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty years later, her brother, Brandon Lee, got shot in the abdomen while filming a scene for \u201cThe Crow\u201d in Wilmington, NC. A prop gun had an errant dummy bullet lodged in the barrel. It hit him with the power of gun-powdered ammo.<\/p>\n<p>A middle-of-the-night phone call from their mother, Linda Lee Cadwell, roused Shannon from slumber in her New Orleans home. \u201cMy mom said that there was an accident,\u201d she told The Post. \u201cWe knew nothing more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Be Water, My Friend: The Teachings of Bruce Lee\" type=\"text\/html\" width=\"618\" height=\"550\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" style=\"max-width:100%\" src=\"https:\/\/read.amazon.com\/kp\/card?preview=inline&amp;linkCode=kpd&amp;ref_=k4w_oembed_8Gw5bK7qu7fSMB&amp;asin=1250206685&amp;tag=kpembed-20\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>En route to the hospital in Wilmington, the recent Tulane University grad received a disturbing vibe. \u201cIn the air, I had this energetic sensation; it was as if something passed through me,\u201d said Shannon, author of the recently published \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Be-Water-My-Friend-Teachings\/dp\/1250206685\/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&amp;keywords=shannon+lee&amp;qid=1603469118&amp;s=books&amp;sr=1-1&amp;tag=nypost-20\">Be Water, My Friend: The Teachings of Bruce Lee<\/a>\u201d (Flatiron Books). In the book, she describes the feeling as her brother\u2019s \u201cspirit exiting his body through my own.\u201d Shannon explained to The Post: \u201cThe only thing I could think was that Brandon had died.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For three years, through the course of a failed marriage and the birth of her daughter, Wren, now 17, Shannon could not make peace with the tragedies. \u201cI struggled with taking care of myself,\u201d the 51-year-old recalled. \u201cI\u2019d shut down and tune out. I would stop returning phone calls and e-mails until I had the strength to continue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She also developed unhealthy eating habits. \u201cI\u2019m a comfort-food gal and the only way I could ground myself was to feel full,\u201d she said, noting her mom\u2019s homemade spaghetti as a go-to.<\/p>\n<p>Then the teachings of her father intervened. Bruce had gone from owning a martial-arts dojo in Oakland, Calif., to being the instructor of choice for Hollywood A-listers and co-starring in \u201cThe Green Hornet.\u201d Along the way, he developed deep thoughts for \u00adliving and fighting \u2014 maintaining copious notes.<\/p>\n<p>Decades after her husband\u2019s death, Linda was working with an editor, hoping to publish the philosophy of Bruce Lee. Now I see that I will never find the light \u00adunless, like the candle, I am my own fuel, consuming myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It convinced her that she needed to take control of her grief and find answers. \u201cI realized that I had been mildly depressed for most of my life and [then] became a detective for my own cure,\u201d said Shannon, who now lives in Los Angeles and is an executive producer on the Cinemax <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> \u201cWarrior,\u201d based on a treatment that Bruce wrote and had hoped to star in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI read further into my dad\u2019s writing, I went to therapy, trained in Jeet Kune Do [a martial art created by Bruce]. I\u2019ve done work with herbs and various kinds of massage. A medicine woman pulled energy out of me.
